1 Research Grant Announcement (M/F)

Call open for applications for a research grant within the framework of project “MIRAI – Machine intelligence techniques for smart and sustainable planning and operation of IoT and Edge computing applications”, with the reference POCI-01-0247-FEDER-069522, co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), through the Operational Programme for Competitiveness and Internationalization (COMPETE 2020), under the PORTUGAL 2020 Partnership Agreement, under the following conditions:

Scientific Area:

Admission requirements: Candidates who meet one of the following requirement can apply:

Be a student enrolled in a PhD degree in the area of Electrical and Computer Engineering, requirement to be duly proven at the time of signing the contract.

Activity Outline: The workplan consists in contributing to the execution of the tasks of activity A3 concerning the definition and development of the Distributed AI Edge Platform. These tasks can be adjusted according to the feasibility of the project. All changes that imply allocation to other tasks will require previous approval by ANI.

Legislation and regulations: Law Nº. 40/2004, of 18th of August, in its current wording (Statutes of Scientific Research Fellow) and Regulation of Research Grants of Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia, in force ( https://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/regulamento.phtml.pt ) and the Research Grants Regulations of the University of Porto, in force.

Work place: The work will be developed at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering of the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP), under the scientific supervision of Professor Luís Miguel Pinho de Almeida.

Grant duration: : The grant has a duration of 6 months, with estimated starting date in September of 2022, on exclusive basis, eventually renewable, but not exceeding the project’s conclusion date.

If the recruitment procedures do not allow the grant to last for a minimum of 3 consecutive months, in accordance with paragraph 3 of article 6 of the Research Grant Regulations of the Foundation for Science and Technology, I.P. , the scholarship will not be awarded.

The eventual renewal of the scholarship will be carried out as determined in article 6 of the Research Grants Regulation of the Foundation for Science and Technology, I.P.

Stipend: The grant stipend of the grant varies between 1144,64 euros, according to the table of values of the grants awarded directly by FCT, I.P. in Portugal, and 1544,64 euros, depending on the profile and previous experience of the candidate in the project area.

If the amount to be paid exceeds 1144,64 euros, the remaining amount will be provided by FEUP funds, not coming from the funding .

The payment will be made by bank transfer.

Selection procedure:

A curriculum evaluation (60%) will consider the following factors (examples of grades in parenthesis):

a) Previous knowledge in the project scientific area – 10 points; in related areas – 2 points;

b) Publications in the project scientific area (up to 5 points), publications in other areas (up to 2 points)

c) Research experience in the project scientific area (up to 5 points), in closely related areas (up to 3 points), and in other areas ( up to 1 point).

The candidates will be ranked on a 0-20 scale and those with 13 points or higher will be selected for an interview (40%) that will focus on the workplan and the experience and CV of the candidates.

Advertisement of final decision: The results of the evaluation will be released to the candidates by email to the email address indicated in the application process.

The call is open from 13-09-2022 to 26-09-2022 (until 23h59, local time).
