Course number and title: CTL7009H – Anti-Discriminatory Education
Course description: : This course inquires into a range of equity issues including: teacher candidates’ (TC) own biases, dispositions, ideas and positionality; relationships between and among students, teachers, community, administrators and families; the ways in which systemic oppressions operate within K-12 schooling in Ontario and beyond; and the interlocking social, economic and political (re)production of inequalities (including but not limited to race, indigeneity, class, gender, sexuality, ability, language, age and religion). The course develops TC capacity to interrogate and challenge multiple forms of discriminatory practices within education, seeking to develop TC’s understandings of theories and practices of pedagogies of liberation within daily life in schools. This course is normally open only to students in the Teaching program. This special pathway course is for students in the Black Future Educators Pathway (BFEP). The successful applicant will have extensive experience with BFEP and in-depth knowledge of its mission and how and why it supports Black-identifying TCs in the MT program to be future teachers of Ontario.

Salary: As of September 1, 2026, the minimum stipend is $9972.475 (inclusive of vacation pay) for a half credit course.
As of January 1, 2027, the minimum stipend is $ $9972.475 (inclusive of vacation pay) for a half credit course. Salary may be prorated based on the appointment percentage.

Preferred Qualifications: An Ontario Teaching certificate is an asset.
Description of duties: Prepare, organize, and teach this graduate course; be available to students seeking assistance between classes; evaluate and provide students with feedback on their work. Attend a pre-course planning/preparation meeting with the course instructional team, attend MT All-Instructor Meetings (AIM) and submit course syllabus as requested by the department.

Please note: Undergraduate or graduate students and postdoctoral fellows of the University of Toronto are covered by the CUPE 3902 Unit 1 collective agreement rather than the Unit 3 collective agreement, and should not apply for positions posted under the Unit 3 collective agreement.
