QIC Indigenous Tertiary Scholarship

What you’ll receive

You’ll receive:

  • a scholarship valued at $10,000 per year, for three years or the remainder of your degree. For example, a second-year student in a four-year degree would receive the scholarship for two years.

You’ll also be allocated a QIC Mentor who will support and assist you in your academic and professional career success.

Eligibility

You must:

  • be of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent
  • be an Australian citizen or permanent resident
  • be enrolled at QUT in an undergraduate course at the census date
  • be studying full time (minimum of three units per semester), either externally or on campus
  • have not received this scholarship before.

How to apply

To apply for this scholarships, you must complete:

  • the 2023 QIC Indigenous Tertiary Scholarship application form
  • proof of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent status
  • a written submission (500 words or less per question) addressing, in your own words:
    • examples of your academic ability and potential to achieve at university
    • your personal attributes, e.g., community involvement, career aspirations, interests, drive, ability to overcome adversity
    • how the QIC Indigenous Tertiary Scholarship will help you achieve your current and future career goals.

Applications open on October 31 2022.

What happens next?

Applications will be reviewed and assessed by a selection panel.

Scholarship applicants are assessed based on:

  • information submitted in your application
  • how you meet the selection criteria.

Written applications will be assessed by a panel of representatives from the Oodgeroo Unit and QIC. The panel may interview short-listed applicants to help make their decision.

The assessment panel will determine the number of full-time scholarships to be awarded based on the quality of the applications.

Conditions

Scholarship recipients will need to enter into a binding agreement with QUT’s Oodgeroo Unit. This agreement will specify the conditions of the scholarship.

You must:

  • maintain a minimum 4 grade point average
  • submit results and confirmation of continued enrolment promptly at the end of each semester
  • defer for no more than 12 months during the study period
  • maintain active communication with the Oodgeroo Unit at all times
  • attend the official scholarship presentation ceremony
  • give consent to photographs being taken for the purposes of promotional activities including media, webpages by the Oodgeroo Unit and QIC.

About the scholarship

The QIC Indigenous Tertiary Scholarship is a key component of QIC’s Reconciliation Action Plan’s focus on employment and the talent pipeline.

This scholarship is aimed at supporting and enabling Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students enrolling in and continuing their university education.
