The Energy and Information is looking for
PhD Student (f/m/d) in Nanostructured Thin-Film Electrodes for Water Electrolysis Under Industrially Relevant Conditions
Your Tasks
You conduct research in inorganic materials chemistry with the goal of qualification in the area of chemical energy conversion for a sustainable energy economy.
You synthetise novel earth-abundant functional catalysts, fabricate their thin-films as well as undertake their characterization using state-of-the-art techniques.
You apply the catalysts for electro(photo)chemical water splitting at technologically relevant conditions.
You especially focus on the discovery of new bonding types and structures, understanding of the relationships between the structure-activity, dynamic behaviour of catalysts in operating conditions, underlying physical-chemical mechanisms, and their properties.
You cooperate with external collaborators, write scientific manuscripts, and present results in conferences.
You co-supervise bachelor’s and master’s students.
Your Profile
Successfully completed diploma or master?s degree or equivalent in chemistry, with a focus on materials chemistry or electrochemistry
Desirable: experience in various synthetic methods and a good understanding of solid-state and molecular derived catalysts, as well as characterization techniques including spectroscopy and/or electron microscopy
Profound theoretical and experimental knowledge of a current field of water-splitting
Preferentially in possession of a good knowledge of electrochemistry, thin-film technology, and working experience with electrochemical methods
High motivation and ability to work in an interdisciplinary team
Highly proficient in written and spoken English
Please upload the following documents with your application:
Motivation letter (in English) describing your background and research interests relevant to this position
Curriculum vitae (CV) clearly listing your education, research experience, publications (if any), and contact details for two references
Your academic certificates
