The Nurse Practitioner will act as an independent member of the team, taking responsibility for the safe delivery of care for BMT patients.  This team member will meet productivity expectations as set forth by the Division Chief, performing any duties related to patient care activities that are appropriate and clearly delineated.

Eligibility for Sign On Bonus – Candidate cannot be a current UC employee. Candidate cannot have been employed by the University during the 12 months prior to the proposed rehire date. Candidate position classification cannot be Senior Management Group (SMG). Candidate must meet any additional UC location eligibility requirements.

Department Description

The Pediatric Blood and Marrow Transplant (BMT) Program at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital San Francisco was established in 1982 and is ranked one of the highest in the nation for survival performance by the federally mandated review program of the Center for International Blood and Marrow Transplant Research (CIBMTR).  The Pediatric BMT unit is a 13-bed unit with an average daily census of 12-18 patients/day and provides life-saving treatment to children with cancer as well as diseases of the immune system, aplastic anemia, inherited diseases of the bone marrow and some metabolic diseases.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 1 year experience working as an RN in the Pediatric BMT unit or as an NP in Pediatric BMT.
  • Completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program.  Incumbents hired with less than 6 months of NP experience will be hired in as a Nurse Practitioner 1.
  • Master’s Degree in nursing with a specialization as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner or FNP with Pediatric BMT experience as an RN/NP in the last two years.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years working experience as a nurse practitioner in a Pediatric BMT unit
  • Experience with taking care of immunotherapy patients.

License/Certification

  • California driver’s license (CDL) if required for position
  • Must hold current national certification from an accepted certifying agency and provide by first day of work.

  • Must hold a current and active RN and NP and Furnishing license in California.
  • Must have completed a BRN recognized graduate master’s degree program as a nurse practitioner.
  • Must obtain an active and/or transferable DEA license to California and provide evidence by 90th day of clinical practice. (It is the responsibility of the employee to transfer their DEA license to their new place of employment if from out of state, via online DEA portal and provide evidence of transfer).
  • Must have submitted enrollment with CMS Medicare and Medicaid through credentialing by first clinical day.  CCS enrollment as appropriate for pediatric environments.
  • Must hold current AHA BLS as minimum requirement
  • State regulation requires that you have a supervising physician to practice
  • Incumbents with less than 6 months of NP experience will be hired as a Nurse Practitioner 1

UCSF Health requires all Advanced Health Practitioners (APP) to be credentialed through OMAG to practice and be privileged through CIDP to function in their clinical role. This applies to both adult and pediatric APPs in the inpatient and outpatient clinical settings at all UCSF Health sites and affiliates. Credentialing, health plan enrollment, and approval of privileges must be completed prior to the first working day. Inability to comply with the requirements of OMAG/CIDP AT ALL TIMES will result in either, a LOA or suspension of privileges designation.
