in the field of heart regeneration

The positions are to be filled in the fully funded project: “in vivo reprogramming of non-myocardial cells during cardiac regeneration” and are to be filled on a fixed-term basis in accordance with § 2 WissZeitVG and § 72 HessHG with the opportunity for own academic qualification at the Department of Angiology and Cardiology at the Faculty of Medicine at the JLU Giessen. The salary is in accordance with the collective labour agreement of the State of Hessen (E 13 TV-H).

As long as the maximum permissible duration of a fixed-term contract is not exceeded, you will be employed for a period of 3 years.

The project and your tasks

This project investigates the mechanisms controlling cellular reprogramming after cardiac injury using zebrafish as a model system. Our lab has recently identified Interleukin-11, an interleukin-6 family cytokine, as a key component preventing scar formation while promoting tissue regeneration after experimental heart injury in zebrafish (Allanki et al. 2021). The aim of this project is to decipher the cellular and genetic mechanisms driving the reprogramming of cells allowing the formation of a regenerative environment after tissue damage. Using our unique model system, combined with state of the art single cell sequencing, reverse genetic methods, and advanced imaging methods, we dissect new mechanisms to develop a strategy for regenerative therapies in cardiovascular diseases.

Your qualifications and competences

– Most importantly, we are looking for a highly committed and motivated person enthusiastic to investigate regeneration related cellular & tissue dynamics in a genetic system. We aim to solve one of the most fundamental questions in the field cardiovascular regeneration and disease.
– Completed Master‘s or equivalent university degree in biology, biochemistry, medicine or a related field is mandatory
– A strong interest in cell biology, cell fate regulation, genetics and molecular signaling is expected
– Documented experience in laboratory work such as molecular cloning, RT-qPCR, RNA isolation, histology etc. is an advantage
Experience in the analysis of transcriptomic data is an asset

The provision of academic services (including the processing of a research project financed by third party funds on a temporary basis) also serves the purpose of academic qualification.
