Journeyman Electrician, Facilities Services

 

Facilities Services invites applications for aJourneyman Electrician to join their team. The Journeyman Electrician will install, maintain, and repair various types of electrical equipment. This position requires the ability to work well with other crafts to complete projects and communicate well with others, and be able to work with little supervision and have excellent troubleshooting skills. The Journeyman Electrician may be required to fill in for shop foreman in their absence. This includes researching and ordering of materials. The foreman will use the work order system, close out work orders, time cards and track payroll sheets for all electricians. The Journeyman Electrician tasks will include researching and ordering materials, good customer service, and the ability to handle multiple priorities. The Journeyman Electrician will be required to obtain the NICET Fire Alarm Certification.

Upon completion of training, the incumbent will have developed working knowledge of:

  • Campus primary and secondary electrical systems
  • Facilities Services work order system
  • UM Policies

Required Skills

  • Proficient at reading and interpreting blueprints
  • Working knowledge of medium voltage systems and ability to test and repair
  • Working knowledge of variable frequency drives with the ability to test repair and program VFD’s
  • Proficient at repairing motors and motor control circuits
  • Knowledge and ability to install conduit wire mold and wire, size circuits, bend conduit up to and pull wire
  • Experience installing CAT-5 and CAT-6 data lines – must be able to certify and punch-down lines on Blocks
  • Assemble, install, test, and maintain electrical or electronic wiring, motors, equipment, appliances, apparatus, and fixtures, using hand tools and power tools
  • Install conduit, ducts, track and raceways inside designated partitions, walls, or other concealed areas, and pull insulated wires or cables to complete circuits between devices
  • Ability to connect wires to control panels, circuit breakers, transformers, or other components
  • Ability to diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatus, and components, using test equipment and hand tools, to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem
  • Ability and knowledge to adapt industry standards and equipment to provide services for special needs projects
  • Knowledge of safety rules and procedures related to the trade and abide by all OSHA safety regulations
  • Working knowledge of fire alarm systems
  • Ability to receive written and verbal requests
  • Ability to make prints and electrical schematics of equipment
  • Ability to communicate with campus community about electrical jobs
  • Understanding of primary and secondary electrical systems
  • Good customer service skills
  • Knowledge of supervisory skills, good customer services skills, and ability to handle multiple priorities

Physical Requirements

  • Lifting: Ground to 36” inches, up to 50 lbs. Ground to 72”, up to 30 lbs.
  • Carrying: Front carry up to 50 lbs. for 100 feet or less. Carry 40 lbs. in one hand for 100’.
  • Pushing & pulling forces 50 lbs. Sustained.
  • Static Overhead pushing of tools 30 lbs. Sustained.
  • Static trunk forward bending and / or twisting occasionally, from a standing, crouching or kneeling position while using tools.
  • Reaching with your arms in all directions, including overhead while twisting trunk.
  • Working overhead occasionally from various positions (standing, squatting, and kneeling).
  • Balancing when climbing and working on a ladder or scaffold.
  • Walking various distances throughout the day on even and uneven surfaces, distances up to 1000 feet.
  • Use of various grip circumferences (up to 5 ½ inches), and strengths (up to 65 lbs. of grip force in both hands), as well as static grip positions, during the use of various tools, and while manipulating various work materials.
  • Manual steadiness, dexterity, speed, and coordination.
  • Arm-Hand Steadiness- The ability to keep your hand and arm steady while moving your arm or holding your arm and hand in one position.
  • Manual Dexterity — the ability to quickly move your hand, your hand together with your arm, or your two hands to grasp and manipulate or assemble objects.
  • Finger Dexterity- The ability to make precisely coordinated movements of the fingers of one or both hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble very small objects.
  • Pass Respiratory Equipment test.

Physical Screen will be administered prior to a final offer of employment.

Minimum Required Experience

  • High School diploma or GED and two (2) years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Current Montana State Journeyman’s Electrical License
  • Two (2) years journeyman level electrical experience
  • Current Driver’s license
  • Ability to use a variety of test equipment

Preferred Qualifications

  • NICET Certified
  • Commercial/Industrial controls experience

Work Schedule:                 Full-time, 1.0 FTE (40 Hours a week), Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, 12 months/year.

Salary:                                $27.98/hr

Probationary Period:        Six months minimum
