Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides direct patient care to students, faculty and staff.
  • Provides healthcare consistent
    with training, current acceptable practice and protocols, including
    physical examination and diagnosis, treatment and referrals to physician
    or other appropriate outside health care providers.
  • Utilizes evidenced based practice guidelines or protocols to develop individualized plan of care.
  • Performs procedures such as wound care, ear irrigations, suture removal, etc.
  • Administers vaccines and other injectables, allergy shots. Phlebotomy and processing of lab specimens.
  • Perform CLIA waived tests such as COVID-19, monospot, strep, urinalysis, and blood glucose.
  • Orders and interprets diagnostic and therapeutic tests relative to patient’s age-specific needs.
  • Prescribes appropriate pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatment modalities.
  • Performs and documents in the medical record a complete history and physical examination for acutely ill patients.
  • Maintains ongoing communication
    and collaboration with interdisciplinary health care team and other campus partners.
  • Documentation in electronic
    medical record is timely and meets compliance standards.
  • Assists with health and wellness programs as a part of outreach to the campus
    community, including student orientations, vaccine clinics and wellness initiatives.
  • Assist with wellness programming.
  • Respond to emergency situations.
  • Maintains CEUs and membership in a professional organization.

  • Knowledge of current treatments
    for diagnoses in primary care
  • Ability
    to exercise independent judgement in medical practice and consult when
    needed.
  • Ability to respond to
    high-pressure situations and to thrive in a busy clinic environment.
  • An
    interest in working with a diverse college population.
  • Knowledge of basic first aid
    and Current BLS
    Certification
  • Excellent oral and written
    skills, including strong interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency with Word and Excel
    programs, other software as needed
  • Ability to communicate
    effectively with diverse constituents – students, University employees and
    outside service providers
  • Current Registered Nurse and Advance Practice Registered Nurse license in Tennessee
    AANP or ANCC board certification
Required Education Master’s degree or higher in nursing. ANA Board Certified Nurse Practitioner.
Required Experience Minimum of 3 years clinical experience. University, urgent or primary care clinic preferred.
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements The physical requirements described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. This role requires regular walking to various locations around the clinic. This role also routinely comes into contact with patients who may have contagious illnesses. The employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee’s vision must be adequate to read correspondence, computer screen, forms, etc. The position requires good manual dexterity. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling and stooping all day.
