Summary

The Associate Director of the Doctor of Physical Therapy Program supports the strategic and operational management of the program. The Associate Director supports delivery of the curriculum in a manner that meets the program’s goals and learning outcomes and has administrative leadership for aspects of the academic program operation including holding chair positions on program committees, as assigned. The Associate Director supports the strategic, administrative and operational elements of the program, monitors the program’s effectiveness, including the outcomes assessment process, and works with faculty and staff to ensure the continued accreditation of the program.

Essential Job Functions

  • Core faculty with up to 100% release time for required duties within the Physical Therapy Program
  • Manages administrative responsibilities consistent with Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE), federal and state regulations, university policy, and practice setting requirements, including collecting, preparing and furnishing data, as requested
  • Assists with and supports the development and implementation of policies and procedures relevant to the operation of the program, its faculty, staff and students
  • Assists with training and development opportunities for the program’s core and associate faculty
  • Recruits, recommends, supervises, and develops qualified full- and part-time faculty and lab assistants to support the Physical Therapy Program
  • Plans and participates in special program events
  • Supports the development of the program budget including assisting with coordinating resources needed for classroom and lab activities, faculty scholarship and student needs
  • Serves as Chair of the Program’s Professional Performance Committee managing student academic and conduct issues on behalf of the Program
  • Provides service to the program and university, as well as supports other core faculty members in their service to the program and university, including assisting faculty in their development and supporting expectations related to faculty accomplishments
  • Develops and manages their own scholarly agenda, as defined by CAPTE
  • Participates in marketing activities and other activities as a representative of the University
  • Supervises and develops the department staff, facilitating professional opportunities to improve individual capability and managing performance against job accountabilities, department goals and established university, campus and department policies and procedures
  • Supervises and manages student employees, as necessary, to enhance their academic and professional development
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Earned doctorate from a regionally accredited institution of higher education or other appropriate accreditation as determined by Johnson & Wales University
  • Three or more years of full-time employment in higher education as a core faculty member in a CAPTE accredited doctor of physical therapy (DPT) program
  • Current physical therapy license in the state of Rhode Island, or the ability to obtain such licensure upon hire
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license
  • Ability to travel to off-site locations for marketing and community/professional activities
  • Excellent communication, time management and organizational skills to support faculty, students and outside constituents
  • Ability to work independently while managing multiple projects and tasks, with little to no supervision
  • Ability to work in a team environment and promote collaboration
  • Ability to model core values and take an active role in enforcing university policies
  • Ability to demonstrate effective interactions with university support services
  • Ability to adapt to and manage change

Preferred Qualifications

  • Five or more years of full-time employment in higher education as a core faculty member in a CAPTE accredited doctor of physical therapy (DPT) program
  • Current American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties (ABPTS) certification or other advance certification
  • Ability to demonstrate experience with data analysis and student outcomes assessment skills
