CSIRO’s Oceans and Atmosphere conducts research to help protect the marine and atmospheric environment and manage the impacts of weather, extreme events, climate variability, and climate change. Our team develops Australia’s national climate and earth system model, ACCESS, to simulate the likely impacts of human behaviour on our earth system into the future. We use these simulations to enable assessments of, and responses to, the risks posed by climate variability and change.
As an Atmospheric modeller, you’ll be joining the Coupled Climate Modelling Team in the Climate Science Centre within CSIRO’s O&A and providing technical support to the Australian Community Climate and Earth System Simulator (ACCESS), which is a key tool for CSIRO to produce model simulations of present and future global climate. As part of the team, you will be helping to develop and maintain a world-class climate and earth system model in ACCESS and contributing to cutting-edge climate science research. You will be involved in delivering model simulations to international projects, such as the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project (CMIP), which underpins the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change reports. The latter are used by many governments around the world, including the Australian government, to inform policies to help protect the environment.
