Summary of Job Duties:
The Assistant Director must work collaboratively with staff members in Residence Education and University Housing, the division of Student Affairs, as well as academic departments including their faculty and administrators. This position will also manage planning and implementing student staff recruitment and development initiatives. The Assistant Director provides direction, supervises and lends support to the Coordinators for Residence Education in each of the residence hall buildings and establishes relationships with other University entities to meet needs. The Assistant Director for Residence Education will have the ability to collaborate with departmental staff in University Housing, student affairs, faculty and other academic affairs staff. Additionally, the Assistant Director will have effective verbal, written, public speaking and technical communication skills. The Assistant Director will have effective and ethical decision-making abilities; knowledge of current and emerging trends and issues in university residential environments as well as current research in college student development. This position will serve as a part of the on-call duty rotation.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
Master’s degree in Higher Education, College Student Personnel, or another related field
At least three years full-time post-Masters higher education experience
Applicable equivalencies may be considered.
Preferred Qualifications:
At least five years of post master’s, progressively responsible experience in Student Affairs
Experience working in a residence hall
Experience leading a team of full-time student staff in training and development initiatives
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Knowledge of current and emerging trends and issues in university residential environments
Interpersonal, written, public speaking and technical communication skills
Crisis management skills
Ability to collaborate and direct activities of multiple groups of faculty, staff, and students
Effective decision-making abilities
Ability to effectively collaborate with faculty and staff
Ability to lead and multi-task effectively in a changing department
Additional Information:
Salary Information:
$50,000 – $55,000 (commensurate with education and experience)
