Technical Officer


Overview:

  • Full-time, Continuing position  

  • Salary HEW 6 + 17% Superannuation and Flexible Working Arrangements 

  • Based at the Bundoora campus, but may be required to work and/or be based at other campuses of the University 

 

About You 
 

Under the guidance of the Technical Coordinator (Health Biosciences), you will be responsible for overseeing and maintaining the day-to-day operational functions of laboratories and workspaces, mainly the Chemistry and Pharmacy teaching laboratories and support teaching and research activities within STEM laboratories and workspaces.  

 

You will ensure and provide expert technical advice and training of equipment/instruments and inductions to users of the space, as well as develop and maintain documentation including, but not limited to: SOP’s, RA’s and chemical registers. This role will also see you ensure consumable levels are well maintained and provide prompt support to stakeholders when ordering or obtaining materials.  

 

To be successful in this position, you will demonstrate: 

  • Experience and knowledge in the routine operation, maintenance, and training of various forms of equipment or instruments related to the designated space. 

  • Proven knowledge and experience working within a laboratory setting, preferably in Chemistry/Pharmacy research or teaching laboratory.  

  • An understanding of OH&S requirements within the space. 

  • Proven initiative and problem-solving skills, highly organized with record keeping, team player and the ability to work autonomously and with a wide range of stakeholders. 

  • Ability to learn new systems and effectively manage competing and fluctuating priorities.

  • Experience maintaining scheduled poisons inventory and records highly desirable 

  • Technical expertise with High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) would be advantageous.

The STEM College Office professional staff are instrumental in providing students with a transformative and enriched learning experience, and in supporting our research and engagement administration activities.
