The School’s teaching portfolio includes: undergraduate integrated Masters in Pharmacy (M.Pharm) that educates and trains future Pharmacist practitioners; associated post-graduate professional programmes supporting the career development of Pharmacists (Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy, Foundation Training, Independent Prescribing);  post-graduate taught Masters (MSc) in Cancer Biology and Therapeutics (fulltime) and post-graduate taught Masters (MSc) in Clinical Research. 

With the expansion of the School teaching portfolio we are recruiting an individual who can enhance the School’s Teaching activities and in particular to support the School’s clinical and professional needs in pharmacy education and training.

We invite applications from candidates who are registered as a Pharmacist with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC), who hold a postgraduate degree at PhD level or equivalent experience in impacting Government policy and Pharmacy practice and demonstrate relevant teaching experience and interests. The appointee will work within a team and be expected to design, prepare and deliver high-quality teaching and assessment activities. As part of a module team contribute to module development.  Supervise student projects and carry out teaching-related administrative duties. 

The School provides support and development to enable early career academics to achieve their full potential.

This post is part-time (0.4 FTE, 14 hours per week) and fixed-term until 31st October 2025.

Salary: £35,333 – £42,155 per annum, pro rota (Grade 6)

Job Description

Main function

To design, prepare and deliver high-quality teaching and assessment activities in  the School’s M.Pharm programme and the School’s post-graduate taught Diploma/MSc Clinical Pharmacy.  To include preparing and supervising different modes of assessment and  as part of a module team contribute to module development.  Supervise student projects and carry out teaching- related administrative duties. 

Main Responsibilities

Work within a team to design teaching materials. Including:  identification of  learning outcomes and respectively develop and prepare appropriate learning material and associated resources; planning of course delivery and of teaching method(s); ensure for contingencies in course development;

Work within a team to deliver teaching. Including: delivery of teaching in practical, workshop, tutorial and lecture-style formats as well as delivering vodcasts as required; communicating subject matter and encouraging critical discourse to develop rational thinking; observing and reacting to student interventions; responding to questions inside and outside class times and to ensure contingencies in course delivery.

Work within a team to design and deliver appropriate assessment materials, instruments and criteria both formative and summative. Including assessments that test individual and team-based theoretical, technical and presentational knowledge and skills. Participate in marking of assessments, ensuring adequate moderation; provision of written/oral feedback;

To supervise the project work of students including the supervision of Undergraduate (Level 7)  Masters projects.

Ensuring your teaching activities are co-ordinated, involving liaison with relevant academic colleagues and/or postgraduate assistants, and the School’s Professional Service teams;  ensuring the teaching complements other learning undertaken by the student cohort; collaborate with colleagues on course development and curriculum changes.

Conduct course evaluation, including facilitating student feedback; reflect on own teaching design and delivery; and implement ideas for improving own performance

Carry out administrative activities as required by the role, contributing to the overall management of the School’s teaching portfolio

To act as a Personal tutor and provide pastoral care support to students. Providing general academic advice and pastoral guidance. As necessary refer to the appropriate authorities for guidance in any advice you give.

Undertake professional development that is appropriate to, and that will enhance performance in, the role of a Teacher including the support for assessments (setting, marking, feedback), academic administration and committee work, and in the pastoral care of students.

Any other duties not included above, but consistent with the role.

Essential Criteria

Qualifications and Education

Postgraduate degree at PhD level or equivalent experience in impacting Government policy and Pharmacy practice

Registered as a Pharmacist with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Teaching experience at undergraduate in areas related to pharmacy professional practice.

Experience in the delivery of appropriate assessment materials and provision of student feedback to individuals and groups.

Supervision of the research project work of students at Undergraduate (Level 7)  Masters projects.

Evidence of ability to effectively work within a teaching team in  course development, design planning and implementation of agreed teaching

Excellent communication skills with the ability to disseminate complex and conceptual ideas clearly and confidently to others using high level skills and a range of media.

The ability to provide appropriate pastoral support to students/trainees/colleagues, and to appreciate the needs of individual trainees/colleagues and their circumstances.

Desirable Criteria

A willingness to take responsibility for academically related administration.
