Job Description

The School of Sustainability seeks a student support coordinator to plan, organize, and coordinate essential support activities and functions related to prospective graduate students and those enrolled in a degree program of study. The coordinator will ensure that the goals and objectives of the School of Sustainability are accomplished in accordance with established priorities, standards of quality and customer service. The coordinator works under the direct supervision of the Assistant Director for Graduate Academic Services and in collaboration with school leadership, faculty and staff, and partners in the College of Global Futures and across the university.

$42,000 – $53,000 per year; DOE

Essential Duties

  • Provides administration of and coordination of program activities and services for the students in a degree program.
  • Interprets program procedures, policies, goals and objectives. Counsels and confers with students providing technical guidance and problem resolution.
  • Directs students to appropriate faculty advisor for further program guidance.
  • Develops and maintains internal systems and materials for delivery of student services, including implementation and instruction for use.
  • Coordinates and administers student support to enrolled and prospective students, such as course registration, graduation processing, petitioning, withdrawals, program documentation, computer accounts, information sessions, receptions, and student orientation.
  • Maintains student records on database, creates and provides reports. Provides contact point for enrolled and prospective student information.
  • Attends and participates in staff meetings, meetings with graduate student representatives, and as member of various college and university committees.
  • Collaborates with other colleges and central university offices to ensure a coordinated approach to student recruitment and retention activities.
  • Plans, directs and organizes activities of the student support unit independently and in coordination with other staff.
  • Initiates, develops and sustains strong positive relations with program coordinators/directors and department chairs to ensure achievement of the mission and goals of the department and college.
  • Liaisons with program students, faculty, staff, administration, and external constituencies in facilitating program objectives.
  • Develops and implements new or revised program policies, goals and objectives; presents recommendations to administration.
  • Performs need assessment, evaluate and analyze student support services effectiveness; develop recommendations; implement and take appropriate action to ensure efficiencies and accuracy.
  • Prepares reports as needed, assists in accreditation reviews.
  • Represents program at various community and student functions.
  • Some events may require attendance outside of regular work hours.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a field appropriate to the area of assignment AND three years administrative/coordinate program experience; OR, Master’s degree in field appropriate to area of assignment AND one year administrative/coordinate program experience; OR, Seven years of progressively responsible administrative/ coordinate program experience; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

Desired Qualifications

  • Demonstrated knowledge of issues related to graduate education and advising
  • Experience in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with colleagues, faculty, and students
  • Experience in working with students in research-oriented degrees (MA, MS, PhD)
  • Experience engaging with students through all stages of the application through matriculation and on-boarding
  • Experience with ASU technological resources such as Salesforce, Peoplesoft, Marketing Cloud, and AppXtender

Working Environment

  • Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding, and manipulating a computer mouse.
  • Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential functions.
  • Regular use of standard office equipment including, but not limited to computer workstation/laptop (keyboard, monitor, mouse), printer, copier, and telephone.
  • Expected to be responsive to customers, engaged in work production, resourceful, flexible, and respectful of others.
  • Work both independently and within a structured team.
