Overview
About the Role
We are looking for a statistician, knowledgeable in clinical trial designs with a strong desire to undertake research in trials methodology to join a flourishing Clinical Trials Unit to support the NIHR clinical trials support fund research project: Development of Resources to Promote best practice for the Analysis of Harm outcomes in RCTs (DoRAH). DoRAH aims to develop resources to promote the use of accepted good practice principled analysis approaches when analysing harm outcomes in RCTs. The postholder will be responsible for the day-to-day research activities and assist with the administrative aspects of the project under the supervision of the project lead.
Alongside this the postholder will advise on statistics and quantitative research methods to researchers consulting RDS London, and to contribute to the work of the PCTU by providing statistical input to trials and other studies. In addition, the post-holder will be expected to do a small amount of teaching.
The Pragmatic Clinical Trials Unit (PCTU) is a UKCRC-registered Clinical Trials Unit with particular expertise in pragmatic trials – clinical trials of interventions as they would be delivered in practice. You will be joining a team of statisticians and health economists currently working within the unit on a wide variety of trials, systematic reviews and observational studies at different stages of their development and completion. The unit also conducts methodological research, and has an international reputation for its work on cluster-randomised trials and trials of complex interventions. RDS London provides free advice to researchers who are seeking public funding for research in health and social care, to improve the quality and impact of that research. Both units are hubs for exceptional, multidisciplinary research expertise.
About You
You should have an MSc or higher in statistics or similar, and previous experience of undertaking statistical analysis of research in health or a healthcare setting, as well as a good understanding of methods and clinical trial design in applied health research. You must be able to work as part of a team and to organise and prioritise your own work. This post is ideal for a statistician looking to undertake research in trials methodology.
