Course number and title: Sessional Lecturer – LHA1846H – Internationalization of Higher Education in a Comparative Perspective

Course description: 

The purpose of this course is to examine the complex phenomenon of internationalization from both conceptual and applied perspectives,. The course explores and develops a conceptual framework for internationalization through a rigorous analysis of different meanings of the concept; shifting rationales, benefits, risks, and outcomes; and the diversity of actors and stakeholders; Students will apply the conceptual framework to a region or group of countries in the world, by analyzing the key priorities, policies and issues. Comparing different approaches among the regions and countries will raise important questions about the different roles and implications of the internationalization process. Emerging trends and issues linked to internationalization including commercialization, brain drain/gain, quality assurance, cultural homogenization, neo-colonization and world rankings will be examined. This course has a definite policy orientation and students with some academic or professional background in higher education will benefit most from it.

Class schedule (Lectures): Online Synchronous, Monday 17:00 – 20:00, Wednesday 17:00 – 20:00

Sessional dates of appointment: July 1, 2024 to August 31, 2024

Salary:

Sessional Lecturer I – $9,457.90;

Sessional Lecturer I – Long Term – $9,930.79;

Sessional Lecturer II – $10,121.77;

Sessional Lecturer II – Long Term – $10,326.62;

Sessional Lecturer III – $10,362.76;

Sessional Lecturer III – Long Term – $10,570.02

Please note that should rates stipulated in the collective agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail.

Minimum qualifications:

Candidates must hold a doctorate in Higher Education or a related field; have a demonstrated record of scholarship in the field of Higher Education and the subject area of the course; have practical experience related to the topic of the course; and have successful graduate teaching experience in the subject area of the course and a successful track record of teaching online, preferably using Canvas/Quercus.

Prepare, organize, and lead this graduate half course; be available to students seeking assistance between classes; and evaluate student work and provide students with feedback.
