Job Summary:

The Influenza Research Institute (IRI) is an active and growing influenza research laboratory supporting cutting-edge research on RNA viruses including influenza, SARS-CoV-2, and replication-deficient ebolavirus. The research group numbers over 30 including scientists, postdocs, technicians and grad students.
We are looking for a Scientist I to conduct research on the virulence, pathogenicity, and/or evolution of influenza and/or SARS-CoV-2 virus. Other areas of active research are the development of improved influenza and SARS-CoV-2 vaccines. As part of a large interactive research group, the incumbent will be expected to assist with the identification of research projects, conduct research, prepare written and/or oral reports, prepare manuscripts, and contribute to grant proposals. In addition, the candidate may participate in the mentoring of post-docs and graduate students and may also train and oversee the daily activities of research specialists. Research projects on influenza and SARS-CoV-2 viruses may require work in Biosafety Level 3 (BSL-3) containment and work with vertebrate animals (including mice, hamsters, and ferrets).
In addition, the candidate should function well in a high-paced environment, be an excellent team player, and have good communication skills.

Education:

Preferred
PhD or other terminal degree, or a degree at least one level above the level of instruction, or otherwise approved as qualified by the Dean
In the area of molecular virology or a related field preferred

Qualifications:

Minimum of five years of laboratory experience with moderate to strong knowledge and experience in molecular biology is required. Experience in the field of virology is highly desired. Cell culture experience, experience with animals and/or biological safety level-3 (BSL-3) experience are desirable, but not required. Top candidates will be trained in infectious disease research. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.
To qualify for Scientist I: Must have a minimum of 2-years post-degree experience
To qualify for Scientist II: Must have a minimum of 5-years post-degree experience

It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.
