RN Staff Nurse – Occupational Health (Remote)


Position Summary
This position provides direct telephonic occupational health care to employees. Uses assessment skills, critical thinking and clinical judgment to ensure the correct level of care. Uses multiple computer applications and works in a fast-paced environment.

Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Uses the nursing process, clinical judgment, and decision support materials to assess employees telephonically. Based on assessment, directs employees to the most appropriate level of care, testing, and determine the need for medical treatment.
  • Provides employees direction, education and support, including verbal and written instructions. Assesses the employee’s ability to receive education and uses appropriate tools and techniques. Takes initiative to problem solve and demonstrates critical thinking skills.
  • Documents care and counseling provided utilizing various technologies. Uses various technologies to coordinate care, including multiple software applications, computerized clinical guidelines, and specialized telephone technology.
  • Collaborates and interacts professionally with other members of the healthcare team, including occupational health and medical directors. Provides the highest level of customer service to callers.
  • Assists with Occupational Health Initiatives including vaccine administration.
  • Administers vaccinations while complying with all applicable federal, state and local laws/regulations.
  • Monitors participants during the vaccination process and manages adverse reactions if necessary.
  • Performs all other duties and tasks as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications

  • One year of related medical experience.
  • Demonstrated effective verbal, written and interpersonal communications skills.
  • Working knowledge of general nursing theory and practice with the ability to recognize and interpret symptoms/conditions.
  • Ability to function in new and emergent situations.
  • Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
  • Demonstrated effective customer service skills.
  • Wide knowledge of flu vaccinations, safety procedures, and storage protocols.
  • Patience and compassion for patients with physical, mental, and emotional issues.
  • Great attention to detail.
  • The ability to work long shifts.
  • Skilled and comfortable with various technologies to coordinate care, including multiple software applications, computerized clinical guidelines, and specialized telephone technology.

Required Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
  • Current state of Illinois and/or Missouri RN licensure as applicable by state of work location, in accordance with Compact Act.
  • Basic Life Support certification (Online BLS certifications, those without a skills assessment component, are not sufficient to meet the BLS requirements).

S25-H

Salary Range
$25.96 – $44.39 / Hourly

The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one’s qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.

Pre-Employment Screening
