Our portfolio of grants and projects spans two campus units; the School of Medicine and Public Health (SMPH) and the Wisconsin Center for Education Research (WCER). This position is housed within the Institute for Clinical and Translational Research (ICTR), which is part of the UW SMPH.
As a Researcher, your innovative spirit and top-notch research and writing skills will be valued and leveraged from the start to help us deliver stellar outcomes. You will provide research coordination and expertise, develop and enhance a portfolio of mentorship interventions, deliver mentorship education, and help advance research and educational knowledge. Individuals who excel in this role demonstrate independence and initiative, collaborate effectively on a team, and pursue research agendas and educational goals established by other team members.
The Researcher will report to the Director of the ICTR Mentorship Initiatives Team, who also leads the NRMN Coordination Center and CIMER, and collaborate with team members across all three projects.

• 40% Collects and analyzes increasingly complex research data, conducts experiments and interviews, and documents results according to established policies and procedures
• 15% Conducts literature reviews, prepares reports and materials, co-authors publications, and disseminates information to appropriate entities
• 5% Trains individuals and groups on equipment operations, research protocols, and techniques within a specialized laboratory or research area
• 5% Develops and implements increasingly complex research methodologies, procedures, and criteria
• 5% Reviews and edits protocols to ensure accuracy, thoroughness, and consistency
• 15% Assists in developing grant applications and proposals to secure research funding
• 5% Facilitates mentorship education sessions
• 10% Assists with curricular development

PhD in STEMM

Required:
– Minimum 3 years of experience navigating a variety of science and social science literature databases
– Minimum 3 years of experience assisting with grant writing and reporting to funders
– Demonstrated independence and initiative
– Evidence of ability to work collaboratively as a team member and pursue research agendas and educational goals established by other team members
– Demonstrated expertise in curating and summarizing research literature and evaluating the relevance of literature searches to specific research questions
– Experience in small group facilitation or equivalent experience in higher education
– Excellent writing skills, as evidenced by published articles and/or experience writing evaluation or other formal reports
– Evidence of personal efforts to promote a diverse, equitable, and inclusive workplace are essential for this position
– Experience researching and/or developing curricula related to mentorship education
– Familiarity or experience with workforce development in science, technology, engineering, math and medicine, including clinical and translational research
– Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
Preferred:
-Experience in workforce development including mentorship education

Full Time: 100%
This position may require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location.

The starting salary for the position is $50,060 but is negotiable based on experience and qualifications.

ICTR: Housed within the UW School of Medicine and Public Health (SMPH), the Institute for Clinical and Translational Research (ICTR) supports clinical and translational research investigators and scholars across diverse disciplines and settings. The ICTR Mentorship Initiatives Team supports the efforts of the ICTR Translational Workforce Development Core. Effective mentoring relationships are crucial for developing the next generation of researchers and scholars. UW scholars serve as a national resource for mentorship scholarship and training. Their work has resulted in the development, dissemination, implementation, and assessment of evidence-based mentorship training interventions. A great deal of this work has been housed within ICTR and many of these efforts have been accomplished in partnership with Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA) sites across the country by leveraging local resources, CTSA funds, and NIH Diversity Consortium Program (DPC) funds competitively awarded to UW and its collaborators as part of the leadership of the National Research Mentoring Network (NRMN). The ICTR Mentorship Initiatives Team works closely with the The Center for the Improvement of Mentored Experiences in Research (CIMER) housed in the UW Wisconsin Center for Education Research. Since 2009, ICTR has led local and national initiatives to improve research mentoring relationships.
NRMN: The National Institutes of Health (NIH) established NRMN in 2014 as a nationwide consortium dedicated to enhancing the training and career development of individuals from diverse backgrounds, communities, and cultures who are pursuing biomedical, behavioral, clinical, and social science careers. The National Mentoring Network (NRMN) Coordination Center supports the research activities of the 11 NRMN Science of Mentoring U01 interventions across the country and provides feedback on the data collected from the interventions to maximize the research benefit of activities. The NRMN Coordination Center resides within the UW Institute for Clinical and Translational Research (ICTR).
CIMER: The Center for the Improvement of Mentored Experiences in Research (CIMER) was established in 2015 with support from the UW Wisconsin Center for Education Research (WCER). CIMER improves the research mentoring relationships for mentees and mentors at all career stages through the development, implementation, and study of evidence-based and culturally-responsive interventions.
