The Opportunity

The Monash University Department of Paediatrics , based at the new Monash Children’s Hospital, has the leadership role in Child Health education for the Monash School of Medicine . It is responsible for leading Child Health Research for the Monash Faculty of Medicine Nursing and Health Sciences to elevate Children’s Health research at Monash to a nationally leading position.

We are seeking to appoint a Research Fellow to report directly to the Head of Paediatrics and join a Medical Research Future Funded study exploring the benefits of a novel genomic newborn population screening program for children with genetic conditions associated with intellectual disability. You will work with the research team to improve timely diagnosis and future health for children and their families as well as increase economic utility. The successful candidate will work with Medical Research Future Fund (MRFF) chief investigators, post-doctoral fellows and PhD students across seven Australian Institutes to develop ethics and governance, complete neuropsychological assessments focusing on intellectual functioning and behavioural issues, assist with data linkage and curation and analysis for outcome trajectories, with a focus on neurodevelopmental conditions.

They will have the opportunity to explore the vast network of paediatric research at Monash University in The Ritchie Centre (TRC), which is jointly a centre of the Hudson Institute for Medical Research and is the largest perinatal research centre in Australia. The centre enjoys an especially close relationship with Monash Newborn (NICU and special care nursery). Children’s Cancer research is undertaken in conjunction with the Hudson Institute, benefiting from the creation of the Victorian Paediatric Cancer Consortium.

About you:

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Psychology qualifications which include research and clinical training, sufficient to complete cognitive and autism assessments
  • Data management and analysis training and experience with large data sets
  • Experience working with children and their families
  • Demonstrated research skills with the ability to supervise, mentor and support the development of staff and postgraduate students
  • Motivation and passion for achieving excellent research outcomes for the Faculty

This role is a part-time position; however, flexible working arrangements may be negotiated.
