Do you have expertise in intervention design, natural or field experiments and/or normative triggering? Do you want to help us create positive impact in the urban development industry through influencing senior decisions makers to take health considerations and inequalities more seriously? If so, we have an exciting, 21 month post-doc post available for someone in the field of psychology or management, who has just finished their PhD, and would like to focus on research.
TRUUD (‘Tackling the Root causes Upstream of Unhealthy Urban Development’) is an ambitious, and ground-breaking, 5-year £10 million transdisciplinary project focused on working with senior decision makers and communities to prioritise health in urban decision-making processes. In particular, we investigate how non-communicable diseases (NCDs) can be prevented by changing the way that urban development decisions are made. Funded by the UK Prevention Research Partnership, our work has a number of facets that are all targeted at enabling system actors to further prioritise health and health inequalities in urban development decisions. The long-term impact of this work is to improve NCDs in urban areas. More details about the project and its partners can be found here .
This ambitious project is being undertaken by a highly interdisciplinary consortium of academics across the UK led by University of Bristol’s Population Health Sciences department. It involves collaboration across a wide range of disciplines in addition to public health: urban studies, law, engineering, economics, real estate and lay public engagement across five universities (Bristol, Bath, UWE, Manchester and Reading).
This fixed-term, 21 month (1 yr, 9 mths) post doc, will be hosted by Stirling School of Management, working with Dr. Krista Bondy (Management). While also being a part of the wider TRUUD team, you will join a smaller team focusing on a set of interventions bridging the gap between normative triggering and power with industry members within land assemblies. Data from our first phase of research supports the well-known principle within psychology – information alone is not sufficient to change how people think and act. We will thus be bringing different forms of psychological triggering (cognitive, normative & affective), together with different forms and uses of power, to create interventions that shape pro-health intentions and behaviour in senior decision makers.
The successful candidate will have finished their PhD, and have experience collecting and analysing primary, qualitative data and/ or quantitative data stemming from experiments, field/natural experiments in particular. S/he will have a background in either psychology or management, and will have experience in intervention design. S/he will be part of a team of researchers who will contribute to the collection and analysis of data from multiple sources, and will otherwise help to achieve the goals of the project. S/he will also be expected to contribute to elite journal publications and other outputs for practitioner/general audiences. The candidate must have a strong work ethic, and ability (or openness) to work across and learn from other disciplines.
Please submit a covering letter, along with a CV, that demonstrates your skill set relevant to this post. Applicants are strongly encouraged to make informal enquiries regarding the post to Dr. Krista Bondy (k.bondy@bath.ac.uk or +44 (0)1225 38 4148).
