Job summary

Imperial Clinical Analytics Research and Evaluation (iCARE) provides a unique platform that allows unprecedented ability to analyse hugely granular clinical data within the NHS via a secure Trusted Data Environment. Supported by a multidisciplinary team of talented people with a broad range of backgrounds; from clinicians to data engineers, clinical analysts to data scientists and academics, we are delivering a programme of translational analytics and Research to support care quality improvement locally and nationally within the NHS.

We are looking for a motivated Research Associate to join our team of clinicians and informatics professionals working on exciting projects using novel data-driven approaches applied to data within electronic health record (EHR) systems to improve the quality and safety of care delivered in the NHS. Through analysis and learning from our vast array of healthcare datasets covering full patient pathways, with data linked between primary care (GP), secondary care, social care and mental health organisations we aim to deliver new insights, developments, and interventions and monitor their impact in healthcare through continuous real-time evaluation as part of an emerging data-driven learning health system.

Duties and responsibilities

You will support local, regional, and national healthcare research programmes and be expected to engage and work with national bodies and organisations including HDR UK, NHS England (including NHS Digital and NHS X), the Health Foundation, and the NIHR Health Informatics Collaborative. Work will include the NIHR funded National Cohort Study ‘Long Covid Multidisciplinary Consortium: Optimising treatments and services across the NHS’.

You will also be expected to lead on data analytics projects and contribute to the day-to-day running and development of the research programme. You will work closely and collaboratively with a variety of stakeholders, including clinicians, data scientists and data engineers from Imperial College London, Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, Whole systems Integrated Care and other NHS and research partners.

There will be an opportunity to discover new insights into research problems and work closely with clinicians and informatics professionals to refine these further into practical outputs. With support of the broader iCARE team and NHS ICT you will develop interventions in digital systems and have experience of real time evaluation of impact.

Essential requirements

You will have significant knowledge in generating/using production analytic pipelines and workflows with a strong programming background; experience working with high performance computing is essential. You will have a strong background in data science and statistics with the ability to apply advanced analytic techniques to real world problems. The ability to collaborate with a wide cross section of scientists and clinicians, excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently or with minimal supervision are essential.

You must have experience in data engineering and strong SQL skills, fluency in Python or R with proficiency in NLP, machine learning, statistics and modelling. With experience in healthcare data and healthcare standards, you will be able to address research questions through curation of data, creation of analytical pipelines and use of computational methods applied to a highly varied range of structured and unstructured datasets accessed in traditional databases and streamed from APIs.

Further information

This is a full time and fixed term role until November 2024, and you will be based in the St Mary’s Campus.
