Research Assistant in Cell Mechanics – INTERNAL

We are seeking to appoint a cell biologist or biophysicist interested in mechanobiology to support the launch of a new research project to investigate how mechanical forces regulate receptor organisation and signalling at cell-cell junctions. The project requires extensive experience in fluorescence microscopy, quantitative image analysis, and cell biology and biophysical techniques. The post will be offered on a fixed-term contract for 6 months.

Within King’s, the position will be managed from the department of Physics, with belongs to the Faculty of Natural, Mathematical & Engineering Sciences (NMES). NMES comprises Chemistry, Engineering, Informatics, Mathematics, and Physics with all departments highly rated in research activities and a wide-ranging portfolio of taught and research programmes. This post will be offered on an a fixed-term contract for 6 months.

This is a full-time  post – 100% full time equivalent

•       Managing data  

•       Writing papers 

•       Mentoring new PhD students 

The above list of responsibilities may not be exhaustive, and the post holder will be required to undertake such tasks and responsibilities as may reasonably be expected within the scope and grading of the post.  

Essential criteria

 

1.       Hold a PhD in biophysics, cell biology, or a related discipline. 

2.       Experience with fluorescence microscopy and quantitative image analysis. 

3.       Experience with cell culture and cell biology techniques (transfection, stable cell lines, etc) 

4.       Experience with molecular biology. 

5.       Good organizational skills and work ethos. 

6.       Ability to design, evaluate, and troubleshoot protocols. 

7.       Experience with student supervision. 

Desirable criteria

1.       Experience with protein design, cloning, and expression 

2.       Experience with TIRF microscopy
