Project Manager

The Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences (FMG)  of the University of Amsterdam (UvA) strives to further its leadership and participation in multi- and interdisciplinary consortium programmes aimed at contributing to societal challenges. Due to recent changes in our capacity to support and promote consortium collaborations such as the European Commission’s Horizon Europe programme FMG is seeking an experienced and enthusiastic research project manager to coordinate recently funded research.

What are you going to do

You will join the Collaborative Research Support Team of the FMG and take charge of the management of funded research projects, starting with a recently funded a Horizon Europe MSCA Doctoral network. As a project manager you will collaborate closely with (international) partners from academia and beyond and liaise with the European Commission. Within the faculty, you will be working with a variety of experts on topics such as project control, research ethics, data management, open access publishing, communication, recruitment and contract management.

You are expected to make the project(s) your own and to obtain a macro-level overview, such that you can act as a sounding board to the coordinator on strategic and organizational issues. It is also important that you have an eye for intra-consortium dynamics and are able to maintain close ties with the Research Executive Agency.

On a day-to-day basis, your tasks include:

  • tracking overall progress;
  • coordinating complex research and training activities;
  • initiating and organizing project meetings and events;
  • overseeing quality control, ethics compliance and data management;
  • actively supporting external communication and dissemination activities;
  • budget monitoring (in collaboration with financial controllers);
  • managing periodic reporting and co- writing technical reports;
  • preparing amendments

About the project:

IP-PAD (Interdisciplinary Perspectives on the Politics of Adolescence & Democracy) is a collaboration of universities, research centres and non-academic organizations spread across seven European countries funded by HE MSCA Doctoral Network. The project focuses on how young adolescent citizens process political information and how this affects their engagement with politics. Within the network 12 PhD researchers will study how the developing adolescent brain in the different socio-political contexts of five European countries underpins the emergence of the social, and eventually, political self.

What do we require

As a project manager you:

  • are familiar with the EU framework programmes and have managed the coordination of at least one EU-funded collaborative research project ;
  • have knowledge of EU developments in the areas of open access, data management and research ethics;
  • have a collaborative and service-oriented attitude and can easily connect with scientists and grant agencies, as well as with business and societal partners;
  • have a pro-active, solution-oriented approach and content-oriented way of working and know what motivates scientists;
  • have excellent organizational capabilities and can control several projects and/or deadlines at the same time;
  • are prepared to work flexibly (especially around strict deadlines) and travel abroad occasionally;
  • have excellent communication skills (written and oral) in English, and (preferably) good command of Dutch.

Our offer

We offer an exciting position in the Project Office of the FMG for 30,4 to 38 hours per week. Initially you will receive a one-year contract with a probationary period of two months. After one year and with a positive evaluation it will be possible to offer you a permanent contract.

The gross monthly salary range is €3,974 to €5,439 based on your experience and 38 hours per week (scale 11, Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities (CAO NU) ). For this position the University Job Classification System Medewerker kennisvalorisatie 3

applies. We also offer an annual holiday allowance of 8%, an annual end-of-year bonus of 8,3%, up to 37 days of paid holiday leave and an interesting set of fringe benefits (also for personal development and further professionalization).
