The Stockholm Resilience Centre (SRC) is a leading international centre in sustainability science for biosphere stewardship, at the Stockholm University. The SRC currently employs around 135 members of staff. It was founded in 2007 and is a joint initiative between Stockholm University and the Beijer Institute of Ecological Economics at The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences.

Project description
We are hiring a Postdoctoral fellow to further the work within the Mistra Food Futures program . Mistra Food Futures is a science-based platform that aims to help enable a transformation of the Swedish food system that is resilient and delivers healthy diets to all, while meeting social, economic, and environmental sustainability goals.

Over the past two years a team of researchers at SRC, SLU and Chalmers have developed qualitative scenario skeletons for the Swedish Food System that reflects alternative futures—economically, technologically and culturally. We are seeking a Postdoctoral fellow that can help further articulate these scenarios through quantitative modelling of pathways to sustainability and health outcomes. 

Main responsibilities
The Postdoctoral fellow will work closely with researchers at SRC, SLU and Chalmers to empirically build a modeling approach by which to analyze complex outcomes of the different scenario skeletons. This includes comparing the Swedish scenarios with other global scenarios (such as the SSP scenarios developed for IPCC, and/or the Nature Futures scenarios from IPBES), and assessing the robustness of the future Swedish food systems with respect to potential disruptive events, such as climate shocks or supply-chain disruptions. 

The candidate will be supervised by Professor Line Gordon (SRC), in close collaboration with Professor Garry Peterson (SRC), Professor Martin Persson (Chalmers University) and Elin Röös (SLU). In addition to being part of the Mistra Food Future program, that brings together multiple researchers from different disciplinary backgrounds, the Postdoctoral fellow will also belong to a dynamic group of early career researchers working on food system resilience and sustainability at SRC.

Qualification requirements
Postdoctoral positions are appointed primarily for purposes of research. Applicants are expected to hold a Swedish doctoral degree or an equivalent degree from another country.

Assessment criteria
The degree must have been completed at latest before the employment decision is made, but no more than three years before the closing date. An older degree may be acceptable under special circumstances. Special reasons refer to sick leave, parental leave, elected positions in trade unions, service in the total defense, or other similar circumstances as well as clinical attachment or service/assignments relevant to the subject area.

In the appointment process special attention will be given to research skills needed for the position.

• A PhD with a relevant background (preferably an interdisciplinary background in, e.g., sustainability, environmental science, land use science, geography, environmental engineering, food systems, or climate science), with experience in quantitative analyses of food systems and/or scenario development, and academic outputs in the form of scientific publications.
• Willingness to work as part of a transdisciplinary team, and evidence of successful work with researchers from different disciplines.
• Ability to communicate research ideas and results and an interest engage with a variety of experts and stakeholders outside academia.
• Excellent written and spoken English skills (Swedish is not required).

We are looking for a person who has the ability to work in an international, fast-paced research environment and who is responsible, responsive, and a good team player. Self-motivation, taking responsibility for the tasks and a structured way of working, are also seen as essential characteristics. The ability to prioritize and can keep an overview of complex issues, while delivering on concrete tasks are also seen as prerequisites for the work to function well.

Terms of employment
The position involves full-time employment for a minimum of two years and a maximum of three years, with the possibility of extension under special circumstances. Start date as per agreement.
