PhD Positions in Plant Biochemistry and Molecular Biology

Multiple Ph.D. student positions are available in Dr. Patrick Horn’s Lab at the University of North Texas, Department of Biological Sciences starting Fall 2023. Ph.D. positions provide full support of tuition and stipend for completing our Ph.D. program. Students will have opportunities to pursue projects focusing on 1) Plant bioproducts for human health and industrial applications, 2) Structural characterization of plant enzymes, 3) Redox processes in photosynthetic membranes and/or 4) Plant productivity in enhanced-stress environments. Our lab is committed to building a diverse team of researchers, contributing to an area of pride for UNT and our community, and therefore strongly encourages applications and inquiries from members of underrepresented groups.

Students will have an opportunity to join the BioDiscovery Institute (https://bdi.unt.edu/), a highly engaging multidisciplinary team of scientists that delivers fundamental research solutions to underpin the utilization of living systems for the production of polymers, oils and additives, chemical feedstocks, composite materials, proteins and other macromolecules, bioactive molecules, and even bio-based fuels.

Prospective students should have a B.S. (or M.S.) in biochemistry, chemistry, biology, molecular biology, plant molecular sciences, or in a related field. Previous research experience in any of these areas is highly preferable but not required.

Interested students should initially send a CV/resume and statement of research/career interests to Dr. Patrick Horn (Patrick.horn2@unt.edu). For more information of our admission requirements and degrees, please refer to https://biology.unt.edu/graduate-programs/graduate-degrees-biochemistry-and-molecular-biology.
