The University of Pittsburgh’s Information Technology (Pitt IT) department is seeking a qualified IT Supervisor for the Operations division. This position will have both management and systems engineering responsibilities to supervise, plan, implement, administer, and maintain cloud-based, enterprise IT services, and other mission critical technology systems. The IT Supervisor will report to and work closely with the Associate Director of Operations to lead a small team of systems engineers that support the University’s Server Compute and Storage IT services to include servers, storage arrays, network attached storage, and system-based virtualization solutions.
The IT Supervisor is responsible for providing direction, advice, and management oversight to the team of highly skilled systems engineers within Pitt IT Operations for on-premises, hosted, and cloud-based IT services. The incumbent is responsible for taking ownership of and lead initiatives to plan and formulate new approaches to enhance IT services, provide expert recommendations to improve these services, and resolve complex problems across a broad set of mission critical organizational IT service infrastructures. The IT Supervisor will accomplish this by working independently and in a supervisory capacity to communicate, collaborate, and work closely with the team, stakeholders, and customers toward the resolution of problems, requests, and implementation these IT services and platforms.
Expert knowledge of operating systems, cloud technologies, virtualization technologies, and strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills are required. An incumbent must also demonstrate and have years of prior experience in:
Primarily working during the day, must be willing to work evening and night as required to support a 24-hour, seven-day operation.

7 years of experience in complex systems analysis, enterprise IT services, and design in addition to administrative experience. Bachelor’s degree required. Equivalent combinations of education, relevant experience, and industry certifications may be considered per University guidelines. IT experience administering and maintaining cloud-based, IT enterprise services, and other mission critical technology systems for a large institution. Management experience working in an IT operations environment and overseeing an IT team is preferred.
