Position Summary:

Reporting to the Operations Manager (Security Services – Downtown), the Operations Administrator will ensure and maintain a safe and healthy environment for students, staff and visitors to campus facilities, in conformity with applicable laws, regulations and codes. The Operations Administrator is required to be a good communicator, be able to stay composed under pressure, be able to work in a team environment, and able to multi-task. They may need to manage emergency situations, intervene in difficult or crisis situations involving persons in distress, and provide or manage security for major events (FROSH, Convocation, Dignitary visits, etc).

Primary Responsibilities:

  • The Operations Administrator (Special Events) is responsible for the safety and security aspects of all special events, especially those involving the sale of alcohol.  Special events can be but are not restricted to parties, BBQ, receptions, movie shoots, rallies and protests that are organized and or attended by staff, students or outside groups.
  • Reviews applications for all special events held on University property in order to ensure the safety and security of the event, its participants, and the rest of the campus. Makes safety recommendations to event organizers.
  • Ensure all alcohol regulations imposed by the RACJ and that the event organizers are aware of these regulations and ensures that they are respected and adhered to.
  • Maintain good working relations with elected student executives by holding annual meetings.
  • Process all agent requests related to special events via the automated request form.
  • Perform a risk analysis when notified of high profile events/guests on campus.
  • Oversee the training and deportment of the security agents during events; issues special directives to security agents for events that do not require a constant presence.
  • Organize and book additional security agents when deemed necessary.
  • Administer weekly report containing all significant incidents on both campuses.
  • Monitor social media platforms.
  • Support team members, vet the daily log and incident reports and distribute them to the appropriate members of the McGill community.
  • Writing/updating Security Operations policy, standard and emergency procedures.
  • Act as an On-Duty manager on a rotational basis, in order to be available to respond to emergencies, answer concerns of the McGill community, and assist agency personnel.
  • Manage emergencies, respond to complaints, and provide managerial direction to queries.
  • Providing support/resources/assistance to the communities for security and/or safety concerns
  • Respond to walk-ins that need assistance.
  • Act as a backup for other members of the Operations Unit for specific tasks and/or responsibilities when those Operation Administrators are not on duty.
  • Attend meetings, conduct site visits in coordination with law enforcement.

Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities

Available to work on rotational basis, as well as on weekends.

Hold a valid Security Permit issued by Le Bureau de la Sécurité Privé in the Gardiennage category, or be able to obtain one within an allotted time frame. Emergency response experience is an asset. Demonstrate problem solving skills and quick decision making abilities. Experience working in teams as well as independently. Proven knowledge & experience of emergency response, experience in security operations and experience in security event management. Level 100, 200 & 300 Incident Command System Certification. First Aid and CPR certification is required. Ability to work in a Microsoft environment. English and French (spoken and written).

(MPEX Grade 03) $52,210.00 – $65,260.00 – $78,310.00
