| Position Summary and Duties | The Network Administrator will install, configure, and support network equipment and inside plant cabling. Troubleshoot and resolve networking issues. Analyze user needs to determine technical requirements and design specifications and serve as a liaison to internal and external service providers. This position reports to the Associate Director of Networking, within the infrastructure department. Essential duties to include: 1. First line installation and ongoing maintenance of networking infrastructure. This includes the deployment and basic configuration of ethernet switches, wireless access points, analog telephony gateways, and backup power devices, as well as specialty equipment as required. This position is responsible for the design, installation, and documentation of inside plant structured cabling (Cat 6 or equivalent and fiber optic riser paths) as well as the provisioning and documentation of campus owned outside plant trunk fiber and telephony pathways. 2. Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve performance, connectivity, and network problems such as network level troubleshooting of client endpoint devices, evaluating and resolving configuration issues at the network edge, and validation of Wi-Fi performance (from a signal RF and throughput perspective) in a variety of environments. These responsibilities include the troubleshooting and repair of inside plant Cat 6 structured cabling which includes testing and repairing/replacing jacks and patch panels to resolve client issues. This also includes supporting analog telephony instruments in specific edge cases. 3. Analyze user needs to determine technical requirements and design specifications. Act as a liaison to internal and external service providers to deploy network-based devices and services, most often in structured cabling projects. This will include providing quality assurance and oversight for major campus projects as well as smaller scale initiatives. |
| Required Qualifications | Associate’s or vocational/technical school degree in computer science or a related field. 3-5 years experience in the structured cabling/network administrative field. Experience deploying and maintaining IP-based networks and demonstrated knowledge of data communications cabling. Working knowledge of current cabling practices, Wi-Fi technologies, and Layer 2 ethernet concepts. Exceptional verbal and written communication skills; interpersonal relationship and collaboration skills are required. Demonstrated experience and commitment to delivering exceptional customer service. Ability to lift 50 lbs. Ability to work on ladders and other elevated structures (pending Loyola provided OSHA approved training after hire). Ability to drive a company vehicle and maintain a current driver’s license. Ability to pass the University driver’s clearance process. Ability to work in confined spaces (pending Loyola provided OSHA approved training after hire). |
