The Singapore Centre for 3D Printing (SC3DP) serves to drive research development and industry adoption of additive manufacturing technology through collaborative projects with leading industry partners, and with schools and research centres within and beyond the University.
The Laboratory Manager/Assistant Director will work closely with all the laboratory staff to ensure smooth operations and compliance to all laboratory and safety processes and regulations. The candidate will oversee the entire laboratory operations and report laboratory updates at the management meetings. Continuous improvement in laboratory operations is a key function of the job.
Responsibilities
Technical and Operations
Lead in planning and policy formulation of the laboratory.
Establish safety guidelines and SOPs for laboratory management, equipment usage and equipment training.
Improve on the existing laboratory process, train and impart technical knowledge to staff.
Access lab equipment / facility and make recommendation and improvement.
Ensure all operations are conducted within recognized industry health and safety regulations.
Devise metrics to measure operational status of research facilities and report these figures during monthly management meetings.
Issue communiqués on all matters that could affect operational status of laboratory (e.g. equipment downtime, scheduled maintenance, centre events) to all stakeholders (centre management, faculty, researchers and students) and provide timeline to resolution.
Build up laboratory operations capabilities to support intra-university paid service and/or consultancy projects.
Support in assessment of project needs.
Quality Assurance and Safety
Developing and implementing a comprehensive and effective workplace safety management system
Conduct internal audits to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations
Follow up on non-compliant safety inspection findings and ensure the corrective actions are rectified
Inculcate a Safety culture among all laboratory users and all stakeholders
Oversee the execution of safety and security procedures, that they are in accordance to NTU policies
Formulate and manage a training and qualification programme to equip the technical specialists with the skills needed to operate and maintain the equipment, handle the associated materials/consumables and train/oversee the researchers/students
Development and implementation of standards, procedures and measures to reduce incidents, while focusing continuous improvement efforts in our pursuit of zero incidents.
Conduct investigations into all accidents and incidents in coordination with the Office of Health Safety and Emergency (OHSE).
Requirements
Min Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Science or related field
At least 8 years working experience in a research laboratory, mechanical workshop and/or manufacturing environment. Hands-on experience with manufacturing equipment is a plus
High level of knowledge in safety, environmental, process safety, industrial hygiene and occupational health
Strong leadership and influencing skills
Knowledge of working principles of the various AM technologies. Experience with AM machines, 3D scanning equipment and CAD/CAM is a plus
Familiarity with Singapore Environmental Protection and Management Act (EPMA) and the Workplace Safety and Health Act is a plus
Familiarity with of Occupational Health and Safety Management systems (ISO 45001, OHSAS 18001 or SS506) is a plus
Meticulous, pro-active, diligent, and able to work independently
