Position Purpose:

Coordinates and provides supports of the accreditation of PGME programs, and the institutional review by both the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) and the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC) for the University of Ottawa’s Postgraduate Medical Education (PGME) Programs. Coordinates development and oversight of evaluation and analysis of the PGME continuous improvement process of the uOttawa institution and training programs. Responsible for generating programmatic and site learning environment evaluation reports and providing trend analyses for Postgraduate Medical Education (PGME).

Specific Accountabilities:

• Accreditation: Responsible for coordination and preparation of the institutional CanAMS Instrument. Coordinates program preparation of specialty, subspecialty and AFC CanAMS instrument. Responsible for the reporting of accreditation results and tracking of AFI resolution activities for both internal review, and reporting of accreditation result for external reviews.
• Planning: Provide assistance for strategic planning on accreditation matters, including collaborations with faculty education leadership and hospitals learning experience leads. Facilitate education of PGME staff, Program Administrators, Program Directors, leadership, faculty physicians and other stakeholders on requirements and compliance needs related to accreditation.
• Leads all logistics related to internal and external accreditation visits: Provide training and guidance to all stakeholders about relevant accreditation processes. Ensure information provided by stakeholders is complete and provided within timelines. Prepare participants for the visits through training and preparatory reviews. Recruit reviewers for the PGME internal process.
• Manage documentation and reporting requirements for accreditation in CanAMS: Organize and coordinate the follow-up on all areas of non-compliance or compliance requiring monitoring between formal accreditation visits for PGME programs and PGME institution. Ensure optimal monitoring of elements of the PGME continuous quality improvement (CQI) cycle related to accreditation standards.
• Responsible to stay up-to date with industry trends and best practices to evaluate CQI activities, including collaboration with relevant stakeholders such as faculty, administrators, and regulatory bodies, that align with accreditation standards and enhance program quality.
• Collaboration: Collaboratively responsible for the implementation of systems, structures and processes that assure continuous compliance with accreditation and regulatory standards. Represent uOttawa PGME in meetings related to accreditation.
• Evaluation Analytics: Collaborate with PGME leadership to develop and implement comprehensive program evaluation plans that include a range of evaluation strategies, such as surveys, focus groups, interviews, and program assessments. This includes developing evaluation methodologies, collecting and analyzing data, and generating comprehensive reports to identify strengths, weaknesses, and areas of improvement.

Knowledge, Experience, Competencies, and Skills:

Essential Qualifications :

• A minimum of 10 years of progressive leadership experience and project management; and/or an acceptable equivalent number of years of experience and education.
• University degree in education, evaluation and research methods, or other relevant discipline.

Other Qualifications:

• Deep knowledge and experience of national medical school accreditation standards and processes.
• Extensive experience in program evaluation – a proven track record of designing and implementing program evaluation methodologies, including data collection, analysis and reporting. Experience specifically within medical education or healthcare training programs would be highly advantageous.
• Strong analytical skills – proficiency in quantitative and qualitative research methods, including statistical analysis and data interpretation. The ability to analyze complex data sets and identify meaningful insights is crucial for evaluating effectiveness of medical training programs.
• Significant knowledge of continuous quality improvement methodology and application to an educational setting
• Substantial knowledge and experience in the development of business plans, planning documents and advising senior leadership.
• Strong communication skills including ability to write, review, and edit documents
• Ability to identify key issues and to carry forward an idea or project from conception to execution.
• Demonstrated interpersonal skills, with the ability to work with senior leaders, administrators, faculties, staff, students, and other stakeholders.
• Strong leadership, organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage several projects simultaneously.
• Experience in resolving varied complex problems independently.
• Exceptional attention to detail accuracy.
• Demonstrated tact, diplomacy, judgment, negotiation, leadership, and conflict resolution skills.
• Excellent presentation skills & ability to communicate complex information to various audiences.
• Bilingualism – French and English (spoken and written)
