This is an exciting opportunity for two suitably-qualified individuals who can support the teaching of our healthcare sciences postgraduate programmes and ensure that the student experience remains of high quality with increased student numbers. The University of Manchester is host to the MSc Clinical Sciences (Blood sciences), a part time postgraduate programme completed over 3 years by students who are employed in the NHS to complete the scientist training programme (STP) and ultimately qualify as clinical scientists in one of 4 disciplines: Clinical Biochemistry, Clinical Immunology, Haematology or Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (H&I). In conjunction with this degree programme the MSc Clinical Biochemistry and MSc Clinical Immunology provide theoretical and practical training to students wishing to study these specialisms.
Whilst our programmes are well established, increased popularity has expanded our student numbers considerably. Alongside this a change in curriculum will be implemented from September 2022. We are recruiting to two posts; one to support the Clinical Biochemistry pathway and one to support the Clinical Immunology and Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics pathway. Specific roles and responsibilities will be flexible across the different programmes depending on the candidates’ experience and specialist knowledge.
The successful applicant will be responsible for the development and delivery of teaching material, ensuring programme content, learning materials and resources are up to date. You will also contribute to the development of blended learning approach for the delivery of MSc programmes and act as personal tutor to support the academic, personal and professional development of students.
You will be expected to have a PhD (or equivalent) in Biomedical sciences, Immunology, Biochemistry or equivalent professional experience (e.g. completion of a 3-year graduate programme to achieve clinical scientist status). A commitment to excellence in teaching with experience of teaching students in a higher education setting is also required.
As an equal opportunities employer we welcome applicants from all sections of the community regardless of age, sex, gender (or gender identity), ethnicity, disability, sexual orientation and transgender status. All appointments are made on merit.
