| Department Summary | The UNT Department of Media Arts is housed in a top tier (R1) university that also holds the distinction of being both a Hispanic serving institution (HSI) and a minority serving institution (MSI). The department houses two undergraduate majors—a BA in Media Arts and a BA in Converged Broadcast Media—as well as four undergraduate certificates: Television News Producing, Media Management, Digital Media Studies, and Spanish Language Media. The department also offers a Master of Arts degree in Media Arts and an MFA in Documentary Production and Studies. Located within the thriving Dallas-Fort Worth television market (currently ranked 5th in the U.S. ) the department frequently hosts professionals who serve as guest speakers and adjunct professors. The location within the DFW market offers numerous internship and part-time employment opportunities while students are pursuing their degrees. With more than 1300 undergraduate students, we are one of the largest and most active programs in the College of Arts and Sciences . Students have the opportunity to work for our local television news station, ntTV , or for the radio station, KNTU . UNT is a Carnegie-designated Tier One research university in Denton, Texas, north of the Dallas/Fort Worth. The Metroplex, as this area is known, is the most populous metropolitan area in Texas and in the South, and the fourth largest metropolitan area in the U.S. The Denton campus, as the flagship research campus of the UNT System, has over 42,000 students including more than 8,000 graduate students. Both undergraduate and graduate students participate on faculty research teams. | Position Summary | The Department of Media Arts at the University of North Texas (UNT) invites applications for a 3-year Lecturer position in Media Writing for Film and Television. The area of expertise is open, but the department is especially interested in candidates with training in screenwriting and non-fiction writing for various forms of media. The successful candidate will have a 4/4 teaching load consisting primarily of several sections of our introductory course, MRTS 2010: Introduction to Media Arts Writing. After the first year, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to contribute to our core curriculum by developing advanced courses in their area of expertise. Our goal is to strengthen our courses in media writing to better prepare students as they pursue their career goals in the Media Arts fields. |
| Minimum Qualifications | Required MFA or PhD in Media Writing, Media Studies, Media Production or comparable degree program. An MA degree in media writing or media studies with a minimum of five years of relevant industry experience combined with three years of teaching at the university level will also be considered. |
