The Center for New Designs in Learning and Scholarship (CNDLS) is at the heart of Georgetown’s effort to combine the best of its educational traditions with the tools, resources and opportunities of the new learning environments of the 21st century.
Job Overview
The Learning & Media Designer is primarily responsible for engaging with faculty to support them in content development through pre-production, production, and post-production. As part of the pre-production process, the Learning and Media Designer works with individual faculty and course teams to organize and review all course materials such as scripts, handouts, etc. and recommends approaches on how to treat the content to ensure that learner-content interaction is appropriate given the learning outcomes.
Additionally, the Learning & Media Designer supports the CNDLS Video Director in coaching faculty in relation to in-front-of-the-camera strategies as needed. As part of production, the person in this position prepares the studio space based on the type of shoot that will take place, and is present during the shoot to provide faculty with just-in-time production direction and other support related to studio equipment. In post-production, the Learning & Media Designer liaises between the faculty and post-production staff to ensure that the final product meets the faculty needs.
Throughout the entire production process, the Learning and Media Designer person tracks, communicates project status, and manages all internal assets related to online course materials. In addition, they are involved in producing graphics needed for use in videos and digital environments and in editing videos.
Outside of the production space, the Learning & Media Designer engages in faculty development activities in relation to learning and media design, researches emerging technologies related to deepening learner interaction with course materials, coordinates and participates in pilot testing, and supports the adoption of new technologies.
Work Interactions
Reporting to the Senior Media Production Manager on a day-to day-basis, the Learning and Media Designer primarily works closely with project-level teams to envision and support content-level design and development; as well as with the various CNDLS teams for the development and implementation of online courses, independent modules, MOOCs, etc.
Additionally, they supervise CNDLS graduate assistants as appropriate; and collaborate with staff across CNDLS to contribute to major initiatives and projects related to pedagogical and curricular support.
Primary interactions are with CNDLS colleagues, Georgetown faculty, and academic staff, .taking place face-to-face, over email, over the phone, and over virtual environments such as Zoom, Google Hangouts, Skype, etc. Secondary interactions are with Georgetown graduate students, undergraduates and alumni; and tertiary interactions are with faculty and staff at other universities, taking place over the phone, email, and occasional project meetings or conferences.
Qualifications
