HSE Coordinator:

A permanent position as HSE Coordinator (Chief Engineer code 1087/ Adviser code 1434) is available in the Sars Centre administration from November 2022.  The administrative staff at the Sars Centre provides general office and administrative support including financial, personnel, communication and HSE services for the Centre’s management and researchers; today totalling approximately 70 employees and guests.  The HSE coordinator’s role is to assist Sars management in fulfilment of their HSE responsibilities. We are looking for an independent, structured, and cooperative person responsible for planning, organizing and administering routines at the Sars Centre that support the University of Bergen’s goals and requirements relating to health, safety and environment.  The person holding this position will have varied tasks within HSE as well as center-wide technical and administrative support tasks.  The position reports to the Head of Administration.

Work tasks:

• Act as an advisor to the management on HSE issues to promote a safe and good working environment
• Assist management in the conduct of systematic HSE management (coordinate, establish, develop and ensure quality)
• Ensure that systematic HSE management is planned and documented
• Report to management and keep management informed of significant issues affecting HSE
• Conduct inspections and audits to ensure that systematic HSE is managed and performed as intended
• Manage the Centre’s Chemical Inventory system (EcoOnline)
• Manage the Centre’s scientific equipment inventory and service agreements
• Centre’s technical contact person for building projects and service/maintenance workers
• Member of the Centre’s new Scientific Visitor Program committee with responsibility for equipment needs for approved visitors
• Administrative tasks may be added to the position and include ordering, invoice processing, and other general front office duties

Qualifications and personal qualities:

• The successful applicant must hold at least a bachelor level degree in a relevant field. Extensive and relevant practice combined with relevant formal training may compensate for not meeting the formal education requirements
• Interest in the field of HSE work and practical approach to the tasks of the position
• Good coordinating and implementation skills, particular knowledge of UiB’s roles and tasks with HSE work is an advantage
• Experience with IT systems used at UiB is advantageous (ePhorte, EcoOnline, Unit4)
• The applicant must be able to communicate fluently (written and spoken) in English and Norwegian
• Outgoing, proactive and contact seeking personality with the ability to work well with others in a diverse international work culture

We can offer:

• A challenging position with interesting tasks in an internationally acknowledged scientific environment
• Annual salary as Chief Engineer (code 1087) or Adviser (code 1434) according to the state salary scale upon appointment, based on a formal assessment of civil service seniority and qualifications. This currently amounts to NOK 534.900 – 593.500 (chief engineer) or NOK 563.500 – 615.000 (adviser). A higher salary may be considered to candidates with exceptional qualifications
• Enrolment in the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund (Statens Pensjonskasse, SPK)
• Good welfare benefits
