Help Center Counselor

The Faculty Staff Help Center, a part of University Human Resources at Stanford University, offers professional and confidential counseling for individuals, couples and families, including bilingual counseling, to address both work and personal issues. The Faculty Staff Help Center also offers workshops, discussion groups, consultation, departmental training and facilitation services for difficult conversations.

Position Summary: As the Help Center Counselor, you will have demonstrated experience in Brief Therapy and working in a clinic setting.    If you are someone who is passionate about working for an internal employee assistance program  and has strong therapeutic skills in Brief Therapy this position will both motivate and challenge you.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Provide a wide range of professional support counseling services to faculty and staff, as well as family members, at the university, SLAC, and Stanford’s two hospitals. May contribute to the supervision, monitoring, and training of student interns.
• Provide brief counseling and crisis intervention for individuals, couples, and families addressing a broad range of concerns such as adult relationship issues, job stress, parent-child problems, alcohol and drug abuse, and retirement.
• Make referrals to appropriate resources and therapists in the community, and follow-up with clients as needed.
• Provide departmental consultation; consult with faculty, human resource managers, and supervisors regarding workplace behavioral issues and departmental stresses including assessment, referral, conflict resolution, education and facilitation of group discussions.
• Develop, coordinate, and supervise educational workshops and programs, and facilitate support groups for the Stanford community.
• Participate in clinical case review and program consultation in collaboration with the director and center staff.
• Maintain clinical records and case documentation; assist with internal operations and special projects as needed.
• Provide staff supervision in absence of director; maintain effective communication and response to greater Stanford community.

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

• A Master’s degree in social work or psychology or related field and five years relevant post-licensure experience.
• Expertise in clinical skills in evaluation, crisis intervention, and case management.
• Proven ability to interact with diverse constituencies.
• Demonstrated strong communication skills (both verbal and written).
• Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Marriage and Family Therapy license, or PhD psychotherapy licensure for California.
• Licensed Psychologist commensurate with intern licensing needs.
• Ability to constantly sit; occasionally stand/walk, reach/work above shoulders, grasp lightly/fine manipulation, use a computer, use a telephone; rarely climb (ladders, scaffolds, or other), grasp forcefully, sort/file paperwork or parts, kneel/crawl.
