The School of Education is consistently ranked as one of Australia’s leading research and teaching institutions in the field of education. It is ranked as above world standard in the most recent ERA, and received the ranking of “high” in all three categories in its Engagement and Impact Assessment for 2018-2019 . It has a strong commitment to addressing issues of education and equity in the context of rapid social, economic and cultural change.
The School’s education programs and research agendas have focused on driving state and national educational innovation and reform. The School currently offers the following teacher preparation programs: one four-year Bachelor of Education (Primary Years), a range of Bachelor of Education (Secondary) Dual Degrees, a Master of Teaching (Primary) and a Master of Teaching (Secondary). It also offers professional development opportunities via its suite of postgraduate coursework programs and has a vibrant postgraduate research community.
The School’s staff are internationally cited and recognised for outstanding work in such fields as sociology and policy studies in education, educational psychology and learning sciences, inclusive education, literacy and numeracy, pedagogy and school reform and leadership. About This Opportunity
The Head of School is a key operational and strategic leadership role responsible for enacting the School, Faculty and UQ vision, cultivating collaborative and productive relationships and delivering outstanding results across the core activities of the School.
This is achieved through generating and enacting the School’s vision and strategy; inspiring and leading academic and professional staff; and effectively managing the School’s resources, governance frameworks and administrative processes.

About You
Ideally, you will be an experienced and inspiring leader of world-class standing, with the capability to develop and implement aspirational School strategy, in alignment with UQ and the Faculty’s vision and strategic objectives. You will have experience in developing and maintaining strategic and academic planning functions, including setting goals, targets and key performance indicators in the context of University and Faculty or Institute strategic and operational plans. You will have an understanding of key contemporary issues in Indigenous education and a commitment to implementing UQ’s Reconciliation Action Plan and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Research and Innovation Strategy. You will be an excellent communicator, with a strong ability in building School resilience, adaptability and receptiveness to change.
The Head of School will foster an inclusive and collegial School culture, cultivating and empowering high-performance as well as forging productive, collaborative partnerships that deliver strategic value.
What We Can Offer
The Head of School role is a full-time, fixed term position for five (5) years. A further appointment may be offered by mutual agreement. Upon negotiation, a continuing Professorial Academic level E position may be considered.
An attractive and competitive remuneration package will be negotiated with the successful applicant.
