Dr. Craig Ferguson of the University at Albany’s Atmospheric Sciences Research Center (https://www.albany.edu/asrc) is recruiting one PhD student with a BS or MS (preferred) in Atmospheric Science or Environmental Engineering. The ideal candidate will be interested in hydrology, planetary boundary layer processes, and specifically, the role of ecohydrological processes in subseasonal-to-seasonal (S2S) hydroclimate predictability and prediction.
As part of a multi-institutional research team, the successful applicant will contribute to NASA-funded research activities focused on drought monitoring and modeling in the central U.S. and in other global hotspots of land-atmospheric coupling. The application and assimilation of NASA Atmospheric Infrared Sounder (AIRS) and Soil Moisture Active/Passive (SMAP) satellite products will be central to this work. Applicants should have strong analytical skills and be proficient in scientific coding (Python preferred).
