GloPID-R Research Fellow

We are seeking to appoint a GloPID-R Research Fellow to join the GloPID-R Scientific Secretariat at the Pandemic Sciences Institute, at the Nuffield Department of Medicine.

You will be a member of a research group with responsibility for the provision of support for a project focused on improving coordination of clinical trial responses to epidemics and pandemics. This is an opportune moment to explore how to improve coordination of effective trial responses to future outbreaks, by reviewing lessons learnt from previous and the current COVID-19 response to influence change You will support this work by leading on a systematic review on challenges, facilitators and enablers for coordination of effective clinical trial outbreak response in different resourced settings.  Further, using mixed-methods (consultations (interviews, survey) and literature review) identify case studies from different regions of examples of effective solutions to address some of the challenges. The wider aim of the project is to inform principles, actions and standards that funding organisations may take to facilitate coordination of clinical trial responses to epidemic and pandemics through policies, grant conditions and wider influences. There is scope for contributing to other related activities within the team, and participate in high level stakeholder meetings.

You will be responsible for managing your own academic research and administrative activities, involving small scale project management , develop research protocol and co-ordinating multiple aspects of work to meet deadlines, supported by the wider team. You will analyse quantitative and qualitative data from a variety of sources, and review and refine theories as appropriate. You will lead on the preparation of research publications and the dissemination of findings. You will be responsible for representing the research group as seminars and external meetings, as well as participating in weekly team meetings and other department team meetings.

It is essential that you hold a relevant PhD/DPhil or close to completion in a relevant subject, such as in medicine, epidemiology, infectious diseases, microbiology or biomedicine, alongside some relevant experience. You will have sufficient specialist knowledge in the discipline to work within established research programmes, as well as previous experience of contributing to publications and presentations. Excellent communication skills, including the ability to write for publication, present research proposals and results, and represent the research group at meetings along with excellent writing skills are required for this role. It is essential you have a good understanding of infectious disease epidemiology, and outbreak preparedness and response research.
