Summary

The Vannie E. Cook Jr. Children’s Cancer and Hematology Clinic in McAllen, TX is seeking a full-time Flow Cytometry Specialist.

Job Duties

  • Conducts independent research or developmental projects with minimum supervision
  • Processes and tests specimen samples from bone marrow, blood, and various other tissues for analysis and diagnosis
  • Counts and measures cells by utilizing a Flow Cytometer for optimum data acquisition, analysis, manipulation, validation, and quality control purposes
  • Analyzes and prepares preliminary reports
  • Records and labels specimen samples in log that includes patient demographic information
  • Learns and develops new research procedures
  • Participates in the presentation and publication of data and research results
  • Provides instruction and guidance to laboratory personnel
  • Acquires and maintains current knowledge of scientific research
  • Processes send-outs in serology, hematology, chemistry, microbiology, histology, or cytology using validated methods and procedures
  • Adheres to accreditation standards and guidelines and responsible for procedural updates
  • Provides coverage for the hematology laboratory
  • Practices quality control procedures in order to produce accurate and valid results used in patient diagnosis and to ensure compliance with federal and organizational guidelines

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in medical technology, chemical, biological, physical science or related field.
  • Three years of relevant experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in related field
  • Pediatric hematology lab experience
  • Medical Technologist (ASCP) or Certified Laboratory Scientist
