Summary
The Vannie E. Cook Jr. Children’s Cancer and Hematology Clinic in McAllen, TX is seeking a full-time Flow Cytometry Specialist.
Job Duties
- Conducts independent research or developmental projects with minimum supervision
- Processes and tests specimen samples from bone marrow, blood, and various other tissues for analysis and diagnosis
- Counts and measures cells by utilizing a Flow Cytometer for optimum data acquisition, analysis, manipulation, validation, and quality control purposes
- Analyzes and prepares preliminary reports
- Records and labels specimen samples in log that includes patient demographic information
- Learns and develops new research procedures
- Participates in the presentation and publication of data and research results
- Provides instruction and guidance to laboratory personnel
- Acquires and maintains current knowledge of scientific research
- Processes send-outs in serology, hematology, chemistry, microbiology, histology, or cytology using validated methods and procedures
- Adheres to accreditation standards and guidelines and responsible for procedural updates
- Provides coverage for the hematology laboratory
- Practices quality control procedures in order to produce accurate and valid results used in patient diagnosis and to ensure compliance with federal and organizational guidelines
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in medical technology, chemical, biological, physical science or related field.
- Three years of relevant experience
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in related field
- Pediatric hematology lab experience
- Medical Technologist (ASCP) or Certified Laboratory Scientist
