First-Year Experience Specialist

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

• Excellent writing, editing, and oral communications skills are required.
• Exceptional organizational skills.
• Ability to meet tight deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously with positive outcomes.
• Knowledge of marketing principles.
• Administrative support experience to include knowledge of general office operations.
• Ability to troubleshoot situations to determine the best course of action.
• Ability to work as an influential part of a team.
• Highly skilled in standard office software and platforms including word processing and spreadsheet use and able to learn a variety of electronic forms, applications, and software suites (Microsoft Teams and Google Suite) for paperless processing.
• Knowledge of the University system to be able to refer students to the appropriate area for assistance. Ability to troubleshoot situations to determine the best course of action.

Typical Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Journalism, Communications or related field and two years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
• Ability to interact with students, staff, faculty, and the general public.
• Experience coordinating large projects with multiple parts and deadlines.
• Experience in marketing, technical/informative writing, and proofreading.
• Ability to understand and integrate institutional strategy into modes of communication.
• Effective interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written) and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
• Ability to foster a cooperative work environment.
• Appreciation of visual design as it relates to supporting content messages.
• Ability to set priorities, work in a fast-paced, exciting environment and meet deadlines.

Required Education or Training:

Bachelor’s degree in a related field and two years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Salary Information:

This is a part-time, (40 hours per pay period), term-funded, 12-month, non-exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package . New hires will be placed on the UA staff salary schedule , Grade 78, based on education and experience.
