Job Description

The Arizona State University (ASU) School of Social Work (SSW) AmeriCorps Field Education Specialist works as part of a team to provide support services to students seeking internship placements in the AmeriCorps Survivor Link program. In support of the Office of Gender-Based Violence and School of Social Work’s program objectives, policies and procedures, this position will provide support to undergraduate and graduate students, both in person and online, in integrating domestic violence and healthy relationships interventions into their field placements throughout Arizona. The AmeriCorps Field Education Specialist is involved in assuring that internship placement information is accurately reflected in data management systems and in multi-media, assists with training efforts, and provides direct services to students regarding field concerns and problem resolution.  Through site visits and learning contracts, the AmeriCorps Field Education Specialist is responsible for educational coordination between the Office of Gender-Based Violence (OGBV), the School of Social Work (the School), and the agency where the field instruction takes place.

Essential Duties

  • Coordinate student support to enrolled & prospective students in person & online; i.e., student orientation, domestic violence/healthy relationships education, prep for practice training, Learning Contract Workshops, & certification training for new field instructors
  • Provide administration, program activities & services for the students in a social work degree program & domestic violence certificate program; interpret program procedures, policies, goals & objectives; provide technical guidance, mediation & problem resolution
  • Meet with students individually at least three times per year & those who are interested in domestic violence advocacy or profession of social work, & recruit, onboard, train them into AmeriCorps Survivor Link program
  • Provide presentations: Learning Contracts; How to Secure an Internship; Domestic violence; Heathy Relationships: AmeriCorps Processes, Terms & Conditions; Self Care; Resolving Problems in the Internship, & Advocating for Self
  • Identify target groups in the community to expand AmeriCorps field placement opportunities
  • Initiate, develop & sustain strong positive relations with community service agencies for the promotion of Field Education, Office of Gender-Based Violence (OGBV), & AmeriCorps Survivor Link
  • Implement, monitor, & evaluate field process, prohibited activities, agency connections, affiliation agreements, student engagement, curriculum goals & objectives as established by OGBV faculty
  • Serve as liaison with community organizations, field instructors, students, faculty, staff, & administration to facilitate program objectives
  • Assessment of educational experience offered in the AmeriCorps Field place­ment.  Advise OGBV & School on the strengths & weaknesses of Field placement with respect to the quality of learning experienc­es available. Engage in site visits with students & community partners, document visits, discuss learning objectives, monitor student progress, & ensure that the Council on Social Work Education & AmeriCorps service best practices are in place
  • Evaluation of student progress in their field placement & meeting AmeriCorps Survivor Link goals & objectives; collaboration with agency representative in an on-going appraisal of student performance & responsibility for awarding & reporting final grades
  • Maintain current student records on IPT Student Detail pages through the utilization of the data management system, including but not limited to Field notes, form completion & signatures; create & provide reports as needed
  • Participate as assigned in faculty committees to represent the needs of OGBV & AmeriCorps Survivor Link in curriculum & update committee members on events/issues/changes in AmeriCorps Survivor Link/OGBV
  • Authorize changes of placement necessary for students in collaboration with student, current Field Instructor, OGBV Program Manager, & Field Manager
  • Support Faculty with linkages between agencies & school during the problem mediation process & referrals to the Committee on Academic & Professional Standards for students
  • Data entry, analysis for data management systems & performance measures
  • Assist with accreditation review as requested by OGBV leadership
  • Develop & facilitate workshops, meetings & seminars for students & faculty as requested by OGBV leadership
  • Attend & participate in staff meetings, professional development seminars & other student support related meetings

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a field appropriate to the area of assignment AND three (3) years of related experience; OR, Seven (7) years of related experience; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

Desired Qualifications

  • Evidence of a Master’s of Social Work from an accredited university.
  • Evidence of post graduate experience. (1year)
  • Professional experience in domestic violence, healthy relationships, sexual violence, or another gender-based violence field.
  • Experience with academic programs, recruitment, or retention.
  • Experience working with multi-media sources and students in an academic environment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the School of Social Work’s academic requirements.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Field Education or AmeriCorps policies and requirements.
  • Experience with Adobe presenter, power point, or related media.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of supervisory practices and problem resolution.
  • Experience in working independently and as part of a team.
  • Experience with reporting, such as grant reporting or performance measures.
  • Experience in meeting project timelines.
  • Evidence of effective communication skills.
  • Experience in analyzing complex problems.
