The Georgetown Institute for Women, Peace and Security (GIWPS) was launched in 2011 by former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, who serves as the Institute’s honorary founding chair, and Georgetown University President John J. DeGioia to examine and highlight the roles of women in fostering peace and security and growing economies worldwide.

Job Overview

The GIWPS Director of Policy and Programs manages large-scale programs and events to advance the Women, Peace and Security agenda, supporting the Executive Director with the direction of signature multilateral, regional and cross-functional portfolios, including two signature initiatives: Afghanistan and “Onward for Afghan Women” and Beijing+25, overseeing the programs team at the Institute, and providing strategic guidance to the Executive Director.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to developing strategic vision and overseeing its implementation, including project management and ensuring cohesion across crisis response, advocacy, communications, research, and direct support activities; driving content development and dissemination; establishing partnerships; managing teams; and coordinating fundraising efforts and identifying and implementing enhancements to activities.

Work Interactions

Reporting to the GIWPS Executive Director and working closely with the Managing Director and other members of the GIWPS team, the GIWPS Director of Policy and Programs supervises a Program Manager, Program Coordinator, and Afghanistan Policy Associate.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field
  • 3 to 4 years of closely related program administration experience
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills
  • Strong orientation to detail, deadlines, and customer service
