In furtherance of this objective, Penn Carey Law designs and implements world-class programs in executive education open enrollment programs; on-site custom programs, and on-line content for our alumni, practitioners, executives, and others via our active in-person, hybrid, and online programming.
Reporting to the Associate Dean for Professional Engagement and Strategic Initiative, Legal Education Programs, the Director of Legal Education Programs and Online Initiatives develops, implements, administers, substantive innovative programs across various (live, online, hybrid) to our various content audiences and initiatives.

Job Description

Responsibilities include:

Program Development

  • Research, recommend, prioritize, and develop new program opportunities.
  • With various departments and colleagues both internal and external to Penn Carey Law, identify promising areas of program development that complement Penn Carey Law’s curricular strengths and meets the needs of our various audiences.
  • Meet with potential faculty and adjunct/lecturers to gauge interest and discover opportunities for market/initiative-aligned programming.
  • Manage program development; develop, propose, and monitor program budgets.
  • Ensure excellent and strategic awareness and outreach efforts for existing and new programs; develop content for and manage the general and individual Legal Education programs web sites.
  • Represent Penn Carey Law and Legal Education Programs to a variety of audiences both to research and develop potential programs and to promote existing programs.

Program Management

  • Manage relationships prior to and during programs with colleagues, faculty, vendors, and program participants.
  • Develop and implement sound procedures and technologies.
  • Ensure excellent execution and delivery of individual programs and content across various delivery modalities.
  • Collaborate with program directors, faculty, and third-party vendors to ensure the development of innovative and informative curricula and supportive events.
  • Develop and implement mechanisms for receiving feedback on each program; prepare reports on each for the Associate Dean and for broader audiences, recommending program enhancements.
  • Working with Business Affairs, reconcile program income and expenses.

Online Courses Development, Implementation, and Management

  • Research, recommend, prioritize and develop new online content.
  • Develop and maintain relationships prior to and during programs/content development with faculty and adjunct/lecturers, partners, and platform organizations and entities.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with internal and external University colleagues.
  • Develop and implement scheduling of on-line program/content development for a host of simultaneous and on-going projects, programs and courses.
  • Partner with ITS and external platforms and vendors to ensure an excellent faculty experience and a seamless experience for participant/learners.
  • Support faculty and adjuncts/lecturers with contracted instructional consultants, hiring of TA’s, etc. as required to enhance program development and implementation. Develop systems and supports to ensure success of all content development efforts.
  • Prepare reports for Associate Dean on feedback, audience reach, user experience, faculty experience and recommend program/course content development enhancements.
  • Develop program budgets; working with Business Affairs, reconcile program income and expenses.

Other Duties as Assigned

Candidate Qualifications:

JD or MBA preferred.   The successful candidate must have two to five years experience in higher education and/or the creation and launching of new executive education or other educational programs. The successful candidate will have one to three years experience in online education development and administration. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent understanding of effective research and marketing strategies. The successful candidate must possess and entrepreneurial and innovative mindset. Candidates must demonstrate a track record of flexibility; the ability to prioritize and complete multiple, time sensitive tasks; and the ability to work well with a wide variety of people.  We seek candidates who have established track records as collaborators in the workplace, within the immediate department and within the larger institution.

Salary offers are made based on the candidate’s qualifications, experience, skills, and education as they directly relate to the requirements of the position, as well as internal and market factors and grade profile.
