Course Lecturer – BMDE 653 Patents in Biomedical Engineering

The Department of Biomedical Engineering of the Faculty of Medicine, McGill University, is seeking applications for a Course Lecturer for the 2021-2022 academic year to teach Patents in Biomedical Engineering under the Graduate Certificate Program in Translational Biomedical Engineering.

This course provides an overview of intellectual property, patents and the patents process. The course also provides insights into the strategies relating to commercialization and exploiting of patents, as well as enforcing patents.

Responsibilities

Preparing the students with the required knowledge, facilitating classroom discussions, assessing and evaluating student performance and preparing students to be successful leaders in their profession.

Other main responsibilities include:

  • Preparation of course lectures and teaching materials
  • Preparation of assignments, tests and grading rubrics
  • Participation in curricular discussions
  • Hold regular office hours

Teaching Qualification Requirements

Experience in drafting and prosecuting patents, as well as freedom to operate, in different jurisdiction

Education

Bachelor in Engineering

Experience

Minimum 5 years

Other

Fluency in English and French (written and verbal) preferred

This course may be taught through remote delivery, in-person or a combination of both as the University will gradually resume its on-campus activities while respecting public health authorities’ COVID-19 recommendations.

Course Lecturers may be required to prepare and deliver teaching material suited to a remote/online teaching environment using a virtual learning platform [e.g., Zoom, WebEx] and the McGill myCourses learning management system. Training and assistance on remote teaching is available through Teaching and Learning Services (TLS). Course Lecturers are encouraged to record their lectures.
