Student Equity & Inclusion Programs (SEIP)

USC Student Equity and Inclusion Programs (SEIP) is a cluster of student development centers and initiatives within USC Student Affairs that offer student support services and programs that focus on intersectionality, sense of belonging and well-being. SEIP facilitates dialogue, community-building and leads campus-wide equity and inclusion initiatives that impact the student experience.

The Coordinator for Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI) Programs will coordinate various social justice and leadership education programs: in particular the Justice Equity Diversity Inclusion (JEDI) Peer Education Program. The JEDI peer education program was launched in Fall 2021 and trains student leaders to facilitate peer-led workshops on 5 topics – Identity, Privilege, and Intersectionality; Implicit Bias and Microaggressions; Race and Power; Gender and Sexuality; and Economic In/Justice. The Coordinator will supervise approximately 20 student staff who serve as SEIP JEDI peer educators. The peer educators support the wider USC student community in facilitating JEDI workshops, leading discussions, facilitating activities, and promoting a culture of equity and inclusion. The Coordinator will also serve as a resource and consultant to student organizations and campus leaders on issues related to justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion.

The Coordinator for Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI) Programs is a full-time, professional staff member, reporting to the SEIP Manager for Leadership and Education, and is tasked with mission-driven implementation the SEIP’s JEDI programs, as well as collaboration, relationship-building and development, advocacy, outreach, and one-on-one mentoring/advising of student leaders. The Coordinator represents JEDI on a variety of committees and collaborative projects and is also charged with relationship-building with student organizations for the purpose of student engagement, partnership, and development. The Coordinator will also assist with social justice and capacity building workshops for Student Affairs units.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Initiate, plan, and organize programs supporting student sense of belonging, intersectional identity-development, and social justice education.
• Manage annual hiring, training, scheduling, and supervision of one Graduate Assistant and 15-20 undergraduate student staff to accomplish programs, projects, and operation of the Justice, Equity, Diversity, Inclusion Peer Educator Program.
• Create train the trainer curriculum on topics related to justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion.
• Assist in creating inclusive marketing, communications, and outreach initiatives for SEIP.
• Develop and facilitate student worker leadership training for SEIP, DEI leadership development workshops for student leaders (USG/GSG, Registered Student Organizations, etc.), and DEI student leader retreats.
• Develop and conduct professional development and cultural competency trainings around justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion for students.
• Provide resource referrals to staff, student workers, volunteers, graduate students, and campus constituents regarding issues or topics such as bias and discrimination incidents, students in crisis, mental health concerns, and overall campus climate.
• Interface with student, staff, faculty, and external contacts for committee work or information exchange regarding program services or content.
• Stay informed of development in the field through data gathering, assessment, benchmarking, and networking with peer institutions and professional associations.
• Assist with developing and implementing assessments on campus climate, sense of belonging, and program improvements (progress/annual reports, statistical summaries)

Other Key Responsibilities

• Plan and implement large-scale SEIP and university events, such as Welcome Experience programming.
• Assist in planning History/Heritage Month programming and cultural graduations.
• Serve as a resource for and collaborator with student organizations and campus programming entities.
• Continue existing and build new collaborative relationships with campus and off-campus partners to maximize resources and effectively meet programming needs.
• Assist with marketing and increasing the social media presence of the department as well as engaging with students through SEIP social media platforms.
• Develop a formal network of resources to support students within the Division of Student Affairs, academic units, the campus community, and the off-campus community.
• Present to campus partners, student organizations, and university stakeholders about SEIP centers, initiatives, programs, and resources.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Student Affairs, Higher Education Administration, Counseling, or a related field
• 2-4 years of professional experience in the field of student development or relevant experience managing student programs in a higher education setting
• Demonstrated knowledge of theory and national research, issues, and current events regarding college students, particularly marginalized populations
• The ability to translate knowledge and theory into programming and resources designed to support students’ retention and success
• Strong advising, curriculum, and program development skills
• Proven presentation. facilitation, and communication skills
• Strong background in assessment and evaluation
• Student staff supervision experience a plus
