Job Description:

The College of Veterinary Medicine at Iowa State University invites applications for a full-time, clinical-track or tenure-track faculty position in Small Animal Internal Medicine (SAIM) in the Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences. The primary focus of the position will be to work alongside our SAIM and diagnostic imaging services in order to bolster our diagnostic ultrasound capabilities as well as enhance our student and house officer training in the modality of ultrasound. Remaining time will be devoted to providing clinical coverage for the SAIM service as well as participation in research, scholarship and traditional didactic teaching.

Applications for clinical-track or tenure-track positions will be accepted at the levels of (Clinical) Assistant Professor, (Clinical) Associate Professor, or (Clinical) Professor.

The successful applicant will be joining a section that includes five board-certified internists, three technicians and an active and successful SAIM residency training program. The College of Veterinary Medicine and Iowa State University have invested significant resources to create an outstanding comparative small animal internal medicine program with a strong clinical research component. The Small Animal Hospital, part of the Dr. W. Eugene and Linda Lloyd Veterinary Medical Center, is a newly constructed and renovated building providing a state-of-the-art teaching, learning, and working facility.

The successful candidate should also be collegial and highly collaborative with a clinical focus that will enhance and complement the clinical activities in the Lloyd Veterinary Medical Center.

Required Qualifications:

  • DVM or equivalent degree.

  • Minimum 2 years of experience performing diagnostic ultrasound and ultrasound-assisted procedures 

  • State of Iowa Veterinary License on or before the first day of employment

  • Board Certification by the American or European College of Veterinary Internal Medicine

Preferred Qualifications:

  • An advanced degree (MS, PhD)

  • Medical sonographer certification (American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers – ARDMS)

  • Unique expertise in an internal medicine sub-specialty (hematology, nephrology, infectious diseases, etc.)

  • Post-training experience working in a large multi-specialty small animal hospital

  • Demonstrated interest and experience with clinical instruction of professional students

  • Demonstrated ability and willingness to mentor house officers

  • A record of or potential for scholarship as demonstrated through manuscript publication/preparation, national presentations, or grant funding
