Job Summary

The Center for Biostatistics in AIDS Research (CBAR), an organization within the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, is responsible for the design, monitoring and statistical analysis of clinical trials and observational studies for several major national and international NIH-funded clinical research networks. CBAR employs over 100 statisticians and epidemiologists including Harvard faculty, research scientists and staff.  Investigators within CBAR have provided statistical leadership and support for clinical research networks for more than thirty years. Currently this includes infectious disease networks such as: the AIDS Clinical Trials Network (ACTG), the International Maternal Pediatric Adolescent AIDS Clinical Trials Network (IMPAACT), the Pediatric HIV/AIDS Cohort Study (PHACS), and the Influenza Research Collaboration (IRC). Results from studies have helped to establish the paradigm for the treatment and prevention of HIV and other infectious diseases, and contributed to international treatment and prevention guidelines. CBAR has a hybrid work environment which includes a combination of on-campus/in-person work and remote work.

Position Description

CBAR is looking to hire a Biostatistician II to act as a protocol statistician, collaborating directly with medical researchers with minimal supervision from senior statisticians in the design, implementation, analysis and publication of clinical trials and observational studies. CBAR provides a strong program for growth and professional development for Master’s-level Biostatisticians including a defined career path and opportunities for continuing education and attendance of professional meetings.

This position will collaborate with medical researchers, senior statisticians and epidemiologists on national and international infectious diseases clinical trials and observational studies. The primary focus initially will be on studies undertaken by the AIDS Clinical Trials Group (ACTG) or the International Maternal Pediatric Adolescent AIDS Clinical Trials Network (IMPAACT). Duties include clinical trial and observational study review; data collection forms design and review; stratification/randomization of studies; statistical programming; data analysis and monitoring; and report writing under the mentorship and supervision of senior staff. This position will serve on internal CBAR committees.

Basic Qualifications

• Master’s Degree in Biostatistics, Statistics, or a closely related field required
• 3+ years of related experience required
• Experience with statistical software (such as SAS, Stata, etc.) required

Additional Qualifications and Skills

The following job-specific skills and competencies are preferred:

• Two-year MA/MS program preferred
• Statistical experience with multi-center clinical trials, or equivalent collaborative statistical experience, strongly preferred
• Highly specialized and technical knowledge of statistical analysis techniques and principles including categorical data and censored failure time data analysis preferred
• Advanced computer skills and experience with major statistical computing packages preferred
• Experience in effectively collaborating with study chairs, medical officers, protocol specialists and database managers preferred
• Experience with independently analyzing data from clinical trials using standard statistical techniques preferred
• Experience contributing to the writing of manuscripts, abstracts, and other publications documenting study findings preferred
• Experience with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) preferred
• Experience with SAS, or strong background in other relevant packages (e.g., STATA, S-PLUS or R), preferred
• Familiarity with medical terminology preferred
• Strong written and verbal communication skills preferred
