Examples of Work Performed

The duties and responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:

100% Clinical Effort (0.85 cFTE):

• You will be expected to maintain 0.85 cFTE (clinical effort). Clinical Practitioners at 0.85 cFTE will be expected to provide coverage for 1170 hours annually. Clinical hours obligations are subject to change. This coverage will consist of Children’s Hospital Colorado and its Network of Care (NOC), including Colorado Springs (in extenuating circumstances only). Coverage will include:
  • Pediatric emergency and urgent care
  • Pediatric Observation Unit medicine
  • Jeopardy shifts (an internal physician coverage system for unanticipated
  • absence)

• Practitioner must maintain active medical staff privileges at all other facilities where ED or urgent care services are provided by the Children’s Hospital Colorado NOC unless a site is specifically excluded by mutual agreement by the practitioner and the medical director of the Children’s Hospital Colorado NOC.
• You will be expected to attend at least 75% of the official monthly Joint Section and Operational Updates meetings for the Network of Care / Section of Emergency Medicine (SOEM).
• You will be required to participate in Children’s Hospital Colorado Anschutz Campus OR with anesthesiology one time per year to maintain airway skills as well as other technical seminars as deemed by the section and/or practice site in conjunction with input from the medical director.

Education Focus (0.15 FTE):

You are being provided 0.15 FTE clinical relief for ongoing participation in academic programs within the CHCO Section of Emergency Medicine.

• Your primary responsibility will be to the Section’s education program. It is expected you will collaborate with existing education leaders and interested faculty members to improve our SOEM educational efforts through 1) assessment of our current education programs, including bedside and didactic teaching, and simulation, 2) generation of measures to evaluate outcomes of these programs, and 3) subsequent generation and dissemination of academic products.
• As an expert with advanced training and experience in medical education, you will be expected to mentor junior faculty and fellows in educational assessment and dissemination through didactic sessions, peer-reviewed publication, and local and national presentation at scientific meetings. Actual annual expectations will be determined at PRiSM reviews with the Director of Academic Affairs and/or Section Head but will be commensurate with other Section academic faculty. We encourage attendance and presentation at educational and academic conferences, which cover a variety of education and research topics for trainees of all levels.
• Participation in clinical research activities, including site investigator form collaborative research studies (funded and unfunded) is encouraged.
• Participation as primary or co-investigator in Section-initiated medical education research projects is expected.

Salary and Benefits:

The salary range (or hiring range ) for this position has been established at $215,000 to $280,000.  

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

The above salary range (or hiring range ) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

• Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine Degree
• Completed an accredited residency in Pediatrics or combined Emergency Medicine-Pediatrics
• Board Certified or eligible in Pediatrics or combined Emergency Medicine-Pediatrics
• Active Colorado Medical License or will have at time of hire
• Active Colorado State DEA license or will have at time of hire
• Active certification in Pediatric Advanced Life Support

Condition of Employment:

• Must successfully pass a 10-panel drug test through Children’s Hospital Colorado
• Must be willing and able to pass a national criminal and sex-offender background check

• Interpretation of plain radiographs
• Foreign body removal
• Laceration repair, including vermillion border and nail bed repair (some advanced techniques can be learned on job)
• Incision and drainage
• Reduction of minor digit fractures or joint dislocations (can be learned on job)
• Nerve blocks
• Lumbar puncture
• IV fluid management of electrolyte and endocrine derangements
• Acute respiratory care
• Intubation (ongoing yearly skills training mandatory)
• Pediatric resuscitation (must maintain PALS certification and complete required annual mock resuscitations)

Preferred Qualifications

• Two or more years’ experience in pediatric acute care environment (OR completing a Pediatric Residency program with significant experience in Urgent Care and electives and/or extra-clinical activities that demonstrate clear interest in pediatric urgent care)
• Experience teaching medical students and residents
• Experience with Point of Care Ultrasound in clinical environment
